Quantum Random Number Generator QRNGThe invention is a Quantum random number generator (QRNG) device integrated in a photonic integrated circuit. This QRNG is a physical random device based on quantum sampling systems with macroscopically observable parameters that randomly vary dynamically, such as the phase or intensity of a laser or an optical amplifier, and are the future of cybersecurity. More specifically, it is a QRNG device integrated into a photonic integrated circuit or PIC (chip), manufactured using lnP technology. The generation of quantum numbers is based on the combination of phase noise produced in a laser cavity and interferometry.Yeda posted this:
Quantum Simulation with Trapped Ions in a Gradient FieldProgress in a broad range of scientific and technological fields is hampered by the difficulty of understanding and predicting the behavior of highly complex systems. Simulating the behavior of these systems is difficult with classical computers but can be performed efficiently using quantum simulators. Currently, the scope of models which such simulators can accommodate with current techniques is restricted because of limitations in managing and configuring the ion chain. We have developed a novel technique for quantum simulation which significantly increase the range of models that can be implemented on a quantum simulator.Antoni Mulero Punsí posted this:

R-ELLA Rehabilitation Pad - Unique rehabilitation device that helps patients exercise on the bedRehabilitation pad is an unique device that is intended for use on the patients’ bed during their hospital stay for active exercise of the lower limbs, abdominal and back muscles in order to maintain/improve physical condition and prevent complications from long-term hospitalization. It enables independent exercise without constant nursing staff assistance and the need for professional settings. The pad is also intended for home use. It has not been certified as a medical device yet. Intended use The rehabilitation pad is mainly intended for: • adults and adolescents from 12 years of age, with a minimum body height of 120cm, who are confined to bed for a longer period of time, and their health condition allows exercising • seniors, who have been confined to bed for a long period of time and need to strengthen the lower half of the body and rehabilitate walking • patients after acute illness that are being rehabilitated in home care Rehabilitation pad enables: • to exercise the lower limbs as soon as possible after recovering from critical condition • development of muscle strength of lower limbs, abdominal and back muscles • independent exercising and improving fitness that leads to earlier recovery Features / Benefits RELLA - unique rehabilitation pad enables patients that are confined to bed for a longer period simple exercising and rehabilitation leading to faster recovery, thus shortening the time of being confined to the bed and restoring physical condition leading to a faster return to the original quality of life. Main advantages • minimal supervision of other person needed • simple exercise of the lower limbs, abdomen and back • possibility to exercise the limbs alternately or both at the same time • sliding plates can be locked to ensure safe manipulation with the pad • the possibility of exercising with bandaged limbs • the pad can be used on any type of bed • easy manipulation (light weight) Dimensions The rehabilitation pad consists of a light aluminum structure measuring 820 x 630 x 50 mm, on which two plates measuring 250 x 258 mm are placed. The fastening belt is made of polyester. Use The pad is placed directly on the bed. To secure it against movement, it is attached to the bed by tightening the fixation belt. Patient lies on the bed in a supine position and the heels are placed on the sliding parts of the rehabilitation pad while the lower limbs are stretched. Movable plates enable exercise of the lower limbs by horizontal movement. During the flexion of the limbs at the hip and knee joint, it moves the feet towards the buttocks. During straightening in the hip and knee joint, it pushes the feet away from the buttocks. During these movements, the muscles of the lower limbs are strengthened (especially the thigh and calf muscles). At the same time, the abdominal muscles and the stabilizing muscles of the back are exercised. The plates move independently of each other, it is also possible to lock them and connect them together and thus perform exercises with both legs at the same time. The boards have a synthetic rubber top that ensures a non-slip surface. The exercise methodology is not structured in any way, and the procedure and frequency (exercise length) generally depends on the specific condition of the patient. Rapid bacterial testing nano-biosensorBackground One in ten people in North America wear contact lenses and the global contact lens market size is estimated to reach $13.47 billion globally by 2019. Almost 80% of wearers opt for reusable lenses and require a contact lens storage case. These storage cases are prone to contamination of by pathogens that can cause bacterial and fungal keratitis in users, which leads to pain, redness, sensitivity to light and potential loss of vision. The effective treatment of keratitis requires identification of pathogen, which using current methods requires several days to culture and identity the bacteria, which in the interim period can lead to incorrectly patient prescribed antibiotics and ongoing harm to eye health. Thus there is a need to develop a quick and cost effective diagnostic test that enables contact lens wearers to perform more routine preventative testing of their storage case condition.Covid-19 Innovation Challenges by Innoget posted this:
Rapid Computational Screening of Natural Products for COVID-19 Anti-Viral AgentsSome edible compounds are potent antiviral agents and were tested successfully against SARS and MERS viruses. They hence provide an large source for rapid development and production of cure against COVID-19. These compounds are commercially available, and are generally recognized as safe (GRAS), with a vast chemical diversity. Despite the high-level genetic similarity to other coronaviruses, such as SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV, recent works demonstrate major structural differences in SARS-CoV2 (the causal agent of COVID-19 disease) proteins. The need for specific anti-SARS-COV2 treatments is acute. Rapid screening of the food derived compounds, using chemoinformatic modeling tools that are common in our lab, allow the identification of a small number of potent antiviral candidate inhibitors of recent published SARS-CoV2 target proteins. Rapid Gas-Phase Isotopic Labeling for Enhanced Detection of Protein ConformationsSeveral prior-art techniques such as ion mobility spectrometry and gas-phase HDX measurements have been used for assessing the conformational properties of gaseous protein ions. Most of these approaches comprise the use of ion traps or ICR cells where a gas is introduced and the ions are incubated with the gas. However, such approaches are associated with potential limitations such as extended gas-phase labeling time, complex exchange kinetics, and comparatively low gas pressure. This novel approach enables a rapid gas-phase isotopic labeling of protein ions for enhanced detection of protein conformations.Taras Maiula posted this:

Reagentless biosensor using aptamer-assisted microneedlesBackground Transdermal biosensing is important to personalized and precision medicine as it enables tracking of patient health conditions in a non or minimally invasive manner. Transdermal biosensors analyze interstitial fluid (ISF), the fluid which is present in the lowermost skin layer of the dermis, for biomarker measurements. Microneedle (MN) devices enables ISF analysis in a minimally invasive manner and in point-of-care settings, however, most MN-based diagnostic approaches require complicated fabrication processes, post-processing of the extracted ISF, or are limited to detection of electrochemically active biomarkers. A reagentless, generalizable assay for the detection of a wide range of diagnostic biomarkers that are integrated with MNs has the potential to revolutionize the health care system.IMDEA Energy posted this:

REAL-TIME ANOMALY DETECTION OF LARGE, DENSE CROWD BEHAVIOR, FROM VIDEO AND MULTI-SENSOR INFORMATIONCurrent methods for detection of crowd behavior are based on tracking individuals or virtual particles. Such assessments are highly prohibitive, preventing the real time and efficient analysis. Other approaches use comparisons of individual behaviors with normal patterns. However, these approaches are tedious and unreliable. This novel procedure allows for the use of a sensing system (comprising video and multi-sensor information) for real-time detection of the behavior of a large, dense crowd.Universidad de Alicante posted this:
