Join the upcoming innovation event "FT Innovation Dialogue 5 - The Change Challenge" held in London, United Kingdom by Financial Times Live.

Discover how innovation leaders are implementing change in their companies to reduce red-tape and to cultivate a more inclusive workplace environment - one in which new ideas can flower, and through which innovation can easily flow.

Ideas, the raw material of innovation, are everywhere. The danger is that we end up looking in the same places for them all the time. Good ideas aren’t exclusive to the C-suite. Those further down the ranks are often closer to the technology and cultural shifts that are taking place, and can provide great insights as well.

But workforces, like the management that governs them, can be blighted by homogeny: everyone is just like everyone else. In the sphere of ideas and creativity, homogeny begets more of the same. More of the same is an enemy of innovation. Bureaucracy (ideas get stuck) and hierarchy (ideas don’t get seen) are enemies of innovation.

How can innovation leaders implement structural change to reduce red-tape, make decision-making more horizontal and cultivate a more inclusive workplace environment - one in which new ideas can flower, and through which innovation can easily flow. What are the technologies that might help facilitate this? And, crucially, how can the power at the center get out of the way of the exciting new ideas happening at the edge?

The global biotechnology market is expected to reach USD 727.1 billion by 2025, according to a new report by Grand View Research, Inc. The emergence of certain key themes in the biotechnology market is expected to drive growth in this industry to a lucrative extent. The biotechnology sector in Spain continues growing year after year. To a large extent, this is due to its transversal character, because more and more companies from different sectors incorporate biotechnology activities to their products and services.

There has been a growing increase of the turnover of biotechnology companies in the Spanish GDP. And that evolution has been constant, even in the years of the crisis. As evidence we have the values of 2014, year when that economic figure stood at 10.35%, and 2008, when biotechnology just supposed 2.98% of GDP. This type of biotechnology comprises approximately 50% of all biotech companies in Spain.

These companies are mainly engaged in products for human health, not only with regard to drugs, but also products and services related to molecular diagnostics, both to treat and to prevent disease. Currently, Spain ranks as the second country with the highest number of biotechnology-related companies in the world, only behind the United States. By introducing a real proposal together with the relevant evaluation summary report, the participants will have a better understanding of the evaluators’ perspective and get prepared to evaluate a real proposal.

Workshop: Evaluation of Proposals Participants will receive a full H2020 proposal and evaluate it. This simulation exercise begins with the briefing of the evaluators on the ‘call’ and the rules and procedures of the evaluation process. The evaluators will then conduct their individual assessment of the H2020 proposals, filling in their Individual Evaluation Reports (IER), after which they will gather with their fellow evaluators for consensus meetings. Once the consensus reports are drafted in each panel, final ranking will be established, which will serve as the basis for the allocation of budget amongst the highest ranked proposals.

While a research unit is critical to the success of the organization, efforts dedicated to R&D process improvements can be challenging. High costs and long time scales coupled with difficulties in anticipating the changing market and customer needs, put pressure on R&D groups to perform.

A holistic and integrated approach to both product development and innovation within R&D process is a strategic imperative.

This September in Berlin we are uniting R&D and innovation experts to discuss the pioneering approaches to driving greater R&D efficiency.

Below is a snapshot of some of our talks

> R&D as a service function, a business partner or the core of the business?
> How to address innovation and research topics in a world of short-term business needs?
> How to select the most promising ideas? How to recognize the need for change?
> What is the right time to invest in new technologies?
 > How to sustain a transformational impact on R&D centers?
> How to adopt realistic KPI for open innovation?

In most of the modern emergency departments, a large number of patients are treated by emergency physicians and decide according to their conditions either admitting them to the hospital or releasing them after treatment as necessary.

This has a wide scope with no boundaries of organ, system or disease pattern. Emergency medicine shares with family medicine the uniqueness of seeing all patients regardless of age, gender or any specifications.

The main goal of Acute Care 2018 to share knowledge and getting ideas from expertise that can help us to provide a healthy life for everyone and to fight with emergency situations.

On 26 & 27 April 2018, London will host the 16th Biosimilar Medicines conference. This year’s flagship event will gather top EU and global regulators, officials, healthcare actors as well as industry leaders, to foster open exchange and debate on the role of the biosimilar medicines sector in “Biosimilar Medicines: Unlocking the Full Potential of Biologics”. Over two days, participants will dive into a dynamic programme – a crossroads between technical, scientific, market discussions and the overarching healthcare policy agenda. With 15 years of experience-sharing on scientific assessment, regulatory approval and the introduction of biosimilar medicines in clinical practice, this conference will take us to new uncharted waters in preparing for this new era. Biosimilar medicines have been game changers in the therapeutic areas where they have been used (e.g. rheumatology, gastroenterology) with positive benefits on access to treatment, and therefore on patient outcomes. They are about to enter cancer patient pathways where the anticipated benefits will represent a unique opportunity for re-investment in needed healthcare products and services.

– Do you have an idea you'd like to pursue or a problem you'd like to solve but don't know where to start or who to start with?
Startup Weekend Biel/Bienne is the place to look for a team, create a prototype of your idea, validate your business idea, and receive feedback from experienced entrepreneurs, all in one weekend.

– What do you need to bring?
Lots of energy! You'll pitch your own idea or listen to others, then vote on the most interesting ideas and form teams with diverse skill sets. You can come with friends, but you’ll get the full experience if you participate in separate teams. Remember, it’s all about the team!

The idea you pitch and the problem you set out to solve can span technical, social, educational, financial, environmental, or other issues. Over the course of the weekend you'll be challenged to create a prototype of your MVP, or minimum viable product, that fits the needs of your target customer. You'll get feedback, iterate, and likely pivot your approach entirely!
