Seeking groundbreaking Powder Application Technologies - Novel technologies for seasoning application on fabricated potato chipsDuring the production of fabricated potato chips, the application of seasoning is an important but inefficient process. For a demonstration of how such chips are made, please view this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pVhkgYUgo0 The typical method for the application of seasoning is for the chips to pass through a curtain of falling powder. This system has the undesirable side effect of a portion of the seasoning falling between chips. To counter this inefficiency, this seasoning can be recycled for use during later production runs. Unfortunately, the flow characteristics of the powdered seasoning can be negatively impacted by exposure to air or airborne oil particles, limiting reuse potential. Additionally, the need for even coverage across individual chip surfaces and consistency between production lanes can be challenging as well. To improve production efficiency and ensure product quality, we seek the next generation in powder application technologies.

If an anisotropic topology/structure is identified, please note that the uniaxial compression could come from any direction and the air phase should stay continuous in any space direction. Even if you cannot prove that your topology/structure is ideal, topologies that are substantially better than typical structures are of interest.Organization from United States posted this Technology Call
Seeking IDEAS for a new process to separate close boiling nitrile isomers more cost effectively. There is a byproduct stream from an adiponitrile process that consists of an isomeric mixture of close-boiling, unsaturated, short-chained nitriles (branched and linear), such as 2-pentenenitrile. Traditionally, distillation has been used to separate these isomers. This is an expensive process that leads to higher material cost which subsequently limits the number applications in which these molecules can be used. An alternative technology is sought to the current distillation process that can separate these close boiling isomers more cost effectively. We are seeking existing or early, unproven but plausible ideas for further consideration. Proposers of ideas found to be of interest may be contacted for further paid consultation to discuss. The Procter & Gamble Company posted this Technology Call
Seeking Identification of Technologies that Drive Microbial RobustnessIn recent years, traditional preservatives (i.e. formaldehyde releasers, parabens and Isothiazolinone) have been subjected to scrupulous reviews by regulatory agencies and consumer groups due to numerous publications characterizing them as carcinogens/skin sensitizers/endocrine disruptors. This has resulted in a ban of key preservatives or a significant reduction in the level of preservatives permitted in a formulation marketed in Europe which then filters to the rest of the globe. Today, more and more consumers desire products that do not contain preservatives. As a result, companies have sought to drive ‘preservation’ of the formulation in different ways other than the use of traditional preservatives.PepsiCo posted this Technology Call
Seeking in-field tools to accurately measure citrus raw juice qualityCitrus fruit must be harvested when they are mature (ripe) and quickly processed so as not to compromise quality or incur yield losses due to fruit drop, pests, and diseases. Citrus fruit is non-climacteric and cannot be matured after it has been detached from the tree. Maturity is rated directly by measuring accumulated brix and titratable acidity both of which are important juice quality characteristics. The State of Florida defines maturity for oranges at a minimum brix of 9%. There are further definitions of processed orange juice by the FDA which define grades and products specifications. The brix and titratable acidity (TA) measurements in the field must be accurate to inform timely harvesting decisions. While there are available tools in the market to measure TA , brix or both parameters, they provide approximate values that are difficult to ascertain or may require complex machines, reagents and skilled end-users. Our goal is to identify or develop tools which can accurately measure TA and brix in the field expediently without requiring expert training.arbaz adil posted this Technology Call

Seeking innovative material processing and manufacturing technologies to improve battery performanceThe client is an established manufacturer of consumer devices, many of which rely on lithium-ion batteries (LIB) for power generation. They are continually searching for improvements in the performance of battery components for current and future products, and actively engage with research and commercial partners to achieve this. Lithium-ion batteries are used in an ever-increasing range of applications from consumer devices to electric cars, with research focusing until now on innovations around the cathode, anode and electrolyte materials used. As the rate of improvement in energy density begins to slow from these innovations, many research efforts are focusing on next generation battery technologies as a potential route for improved performance and cost, but many of these have a lengthy development trajectory or are exclusively focused on the growing electric vehicle market. However, whilst many manufacturers choose to keep their manufacturing processes as secret know-how, improvements in the various stages of battery cell manufacturing may also provide considerable improvements to battery characteristics, subsequent performance and their CSR (corporate social responsibility) credentials, with potentially faster speed to market.Strategic Allies Ltd. posted this Technology Call
Seeking Innovative meat flavouring and preserving technologiesWe are working with a food manufacturing business and brand owner whose products include cured, chilled meat. Curing is a traditional preservation process used to impart colour, flavour and texture to some meats, in addition to food safety control against pathogens. The curing process combines several elements (e.g. use of a brine, hanging, tumbling/manipulating, forming and cooking) over a number of days/weeks/months, to produce a variety of tastes and textures in the end products, e.g. a traditional cured, sliced ham. This process also requires the addition of nitrates/nitrites (in the form of the brine), which are injected into the raw meat and/or used to immerse it, before further processing. There is research suggesting that the use of nitrates/nitrites can cause potential health issues, through the formation of potentially carcinogenic nitrosamines. It is for this reason that food processors and retailers are exploring alternative ingredients, e.g. vegetable powders containing natural sources of nitrates, to reduce the impact on the human body. However, replicating the physical appearance, as well as texture and flavour of premium quality meat has been problematic when using alternative ingredients and the chilled environments required for food processing.Innoget posted this Technology Call

Seeking Innovative Sustainable Biopolymers and Biorenewable Building BlocksSynthetic polymers are often used as thickening agents for liquid formulations. Already small quantities (< 1%) enable the formation of a gel network, which is most important for the correct application of the product. However, due to their persistence the reputation of synthetic polymers has deteriorated during the last years, which has increased the demand for natural alternatives. Despite the huge interest of the industry in green alternatives, successful candidates are a rarity, due to numerous technical and commercial hurdles. It is therefore most important to find partnerships with universities, start-ups, or well-established companies, which may lead to the development of new sustainable polymers for industrial and consumer applications.Strategic Allies Ltd. posted this Technology Call
Seeking Innovative tea brewing equipment for food outletsWe are working with a beverage company supplying the global retail and foodservice markets with a variety of non-alcoholic, branded beverages and dispensing equipment. Specifically for tea beverages (both prepared for hot and cold servings), the client currently provides its customers with beverage concentrates (e.g. syrups to be diluted) that are prepared at a centralized location or provides ingredients (e.g. tea leaf) for beverage preparation at the customer outlet. The current equipment that dispenses these branded teas for immediate consumption by consumers are:-“- Bag in Box/Concentrate Fountain Dispenser (both aseptic and non-aseptically filled); In-Store tea/coffee Brewer (for fresh brewed hot and/or iced serving); and Bubbler (prepared fresh at retail). Whilst the beverages have a great taste and the flavour is consistent, which is vital for the client’s branded products, the combined offering of equipment and beverage often lacks optimal design, superior consumer experience and choice.
