Application of Circular Economy Principles in Housing/Construction Development (Taltech, Estonia)SMAR3TS project partner - TalTech is looking for innovative approaches to apply Circular Economy Principles to the current challenges in Housing/Construction Development. The construction sector has traditionally followed a linear path: build, use, demolish, discard. This approach is no longer seen as sustainable in Estonia. Globally the built environment is responsible for about 40% of CO₂ emissions, nearly 1/3 of all waste and 1/2 of Europe’s resource use. To correspond to climate targets and create sustainable urban futures, cities must move towards circular construction by reusing what already exists instead of discarding it. TalTech Department of Business Administration is currently involved in several sustainability-related projects, most relevant for current I3X proposal: Reusing Old Buildings for Circular Construction. PARE (Estonian HR Association) is at concept stage for a program on workplace-neighborhoods—how the immediate public realm around worksites (5–15-minute catchments) relates to HR outcomes (well-being, engagement, absenteeism/presenteeism, retention). PARE does not have an internal R&D unit; our role is to convene employers, broker academic–city partnerships, and translate evidence into HR practice. In the current stage of ideation, the goal is to identify perspective partners to form a consortium (PARE + university methods lead + municipal/landlord partners). Next-generation proteins for resilient and regenerative food systems (LUT University – Kouvola, Finland)SMAR3TS project partner – Kouvola Research & Innovation Unit (LUT University) is seeking innovative approaches to build climate-resilient, regenerative regional food systems that can thrive under the intensifying pressures of climate change while advancing sustainability, nutrition and economic opportunity. Europe is confronting escalating impacts from extreme weather — from heatwaves to floods — that increasingly undermine food security, health, livelihoods and economic stability. In response, the European Commission has launched a public consultation on a new climate resilience framework aimed at making Europe stronger, safer and better prepared for future climate challenges. This framework will emphasise resilience by design, coordinated preparedness, risk reduction and innovative climate-resilient technologies across sectors. Food systems are a central component of this challenge: they are both vulnerable to climate shocks and a major driver of emissions and ecological degradation. Traditional food supply chains are optimised for cost and efficiency, not resilience or sustainability. To address this, climate-ready food systems must integrate regional value chain redesign, circular biomass utilisation, low-impact proteins, sustainable packaging and food-waste valorisation into coherent, context-specific strategies. The Kymenlaakso region — a bioeconomy, logistics and industrial hub of Finland — offers an ideal living lab for co-creating, testing and scaling regenerative food system innovations that align with emerging European prioriites and strategic agenda of shaping climate resilience actions. Within SMAR3TS, this I3X aims to accelerate food systems' approaches that contribute to climate resilience at the regional and EU levels.

I am sending this to you for the purpose of eventual licensing and manufacturing, essentially to find a partner. The innovation described herein addresses the failures of the “Wankel” rotary engine. The elliptical shaped housing incorporated into this engine was once hailed as a revolutionary new design that would result in greater power and fuel economy. While this novel engine offered great promise in-concept, in practice it was inherently flawed. The problem with its design was related to the fractional nature of the Pi (3.14….) in calculating the circumference of two gears interfacing with each other: fractional circumference-values on two gears, and a nonfractional number of groves on the two gears was the root of the problem. Two set of gears, with un-precise tolerances caused banging, and wear-and-tear on the tips of the triangular rotor and the edges of the elliptical housing. The new Spherical Rotary Turbo Engine (Patent number: 9464566), with rotating central shaft and only two moving parts under the load, represents a paradigm-shifting approach that may drastically improve the efficiency of the combustion engine, resulting in fuel savings for consumers and emissions reductions benefiting society.
