Seeking new biodegradable building blocks and technologies for green polymersIn Personal Care products, synthetic polymers (e.g. Polyacrylates) are mostly - but not exclusively - used as thickening agents. Already small quantities (< 1%) enable the formation of a gel network, which is most desired for the product handling and appearance, as well as the sensorial properties. Since most synthetic polymers are not biodegradable, they may fall under the scope of being a microplastic and could therefore be imposed to labeling in nearby future. This threat is most unwanted by personal care companies and their suppliers, which in turn results in a growing interest for green alternatives. Currently used biopolymers (e.g. Xanthan Gum, Cellulose, etc.) do not show the same performance as their synthetic acrylate-based counterparts. Same is valid for green polymers, which are based on biorenewable monomers (e.g. glycerol, sebacic acids, etc.). At the moment, the skin feel and the viscosity building properties of these bio- and green polymers do not meet the requirements of the broad market, and remain thus rather a niche product. Despite the huge interest of the industry in green alternatives, successful candidates are a rarity, due to numerous technical and commercial hurdles. It is therefore most important to find partnerships with universities, start-ups, or well-established companies, which may lead to the development of new biorenewable building blocks and technologies.Strategic Allies Ltd. posted this Technology Call

Seeking Next generation automotive coating technologiesWe are working with a leading Tier 1 supplier of material solutions to the global automotive sector, and they are actively searching for step-change solutions and processes to address the rapidly changing marketplace for people transportation (including domestic cars, shared autonomous electric vehicles and municipal vehicles). The growing move to autonomous vehicles and future reliance on electric power offers both opportunities and challenges. Existing solutions use coatings to protect and decorate the vehicle, but the processes employed are costly in terms of time, labour and capital equipment, resulting in a significant cost for the manufacturer. Now OEMs are demanding quicker and more cost-effective solutions for vehicles that utilise a broader range of materials and are designed to be replaced more regularly, in some cases negating the need for decades of service. Whilst the emergence of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) necessitates cost efficiency for providers and therefore from the manufacturers, it also provides a new market for increased functionality of the car - as an informational, entertaining and socially responsible mode of transport.Strategic Allies Ltd. posted this Technology Call

Seeking next generation pallet boardsPepsiCo seeks innovative suppliers for pallet boards suitable for use in its production and warehousing efforts. PepsiCo currently uses pallet boards made of Oriented Strand Boards (OSB) when warehousing products and goods in its facilities. Many of these pallets are currently made of 7/8” thick 9-11 ply fir or hardwood CC grade veneer core plywood and, while widely used in multiple PepsiCo production facilities, are susceptible to damage from other equipment including chains, brackets and forklifts (see images attached for examples of damaged pallet boards). At present, a single pallet board has an average functional life span of 3-6 months. To improve operations and reduce waste from damaged pallet boards, PepsiCo is interested in a composite pallet board. While the board can still be OSB, composite boards with other materials (such as plastics or aluminum, could be added for increased strength and resiliency) are of primary interest as long as there is no negative impact on recyclability. While PepsiCo is primarily interested in pallet board technologies that are commercially available, earlier stage technologies are of interest, provided viable development pathways exist.Covid-19 Innovation Challenges by Innoget posted this Technology Call
Seeking novel ideas to strengthen inclusion and empower the "Invisible Billion"The COVID-19 pandemic highlights how countries with platforms (such as digital ID systems, digital payment systems, and integrated social protection information ecosystems) are able to quickly scale up existing or introduce new social protection programs. In particular, countries with such assets have been able to efficiently make emergency cash transfers to vulnerable groups—such as women and girls, the poor, informal workers, migrant workers, people living in remote areas, and refugees. The Mission Billion Challenge seeks solutions to how countries can increase their efforts to further support these groups—who often lack smartphones, computers and broadband internet access—so they can access services and cash transfers with minimal health risks.Organization from Spain posted this Technology Call
