The group seeks to reach collaboration agreements, licensing or commercial agreements with technical assistance, with companies in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and biomedicine sectors in general.
Merck KGaA posted this:Technology for Lysophosphatidic Acid (LPA) Receptor antagonistsMerck has developed and patented the results of its intense R&D activities for the identification of small organic molecules as antagonists to certain LPA receptors (LPAR1, -R2, -R3). Herein described are LPA-R2 receptor selective inhibitors. Based upon a rational screening cascade established, compounds have been identified and characterized with regard to their specific in vitro and cellular activities. The package includes access to the IP, experimental results, and materials. Merck offers the unique chance to acquire this promising program.
Merck KGaA posted this:Novel Pharmaceutical Salt Forming Counterions with Increased Dissolution Rates and SupersaturationOne of the major obstacles in developing promising New Chemical Entities (NCEs) as Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) is their low solubility and therefore poor bioavailability. Merck has developed a novel class of salt forming anions as counter-ions for protonated free base APIs which result in an accelerated dissolution rate and increased solubility by supersaturation of the NCE. The invention is based on a systematic thermodynamic and molecular engineering approach to design the above mentioned anions resulting in crystal lattices of API salts with weak Coulomb interactions.

When treated with a solution containing interleukin-4 polypeptide (IL4), the team is able to prolong survival, delay the manifestation of the most apparent symptoms of the disease and improve the clinical course of the disease attenuating body weight loss and improving the motor behavior. The University of Lleida seeks an industrial partner willing to further develop this technology under a license agreement.

Thus, this new approach may benefit not only stroke patients who can be treated with current treatment to induce recanalization (transient stroke) but also the 80% of patients who could not benefit from current therapies directed to induce recanalization of the artery (permanent strokes). Results in the preclinical area and some results obtained in serum of stroke patients lead us to think that apotransferrin is a good neuroprotector in the early stages of the ischemic event.

University of Vigo posted this:Pyridazin-3(2H)-one Derivatives as Selective Inhibitors of Monoamine Oxidase-B Isoform (MAO-B)The pyridazine ring is a privileged fragment found in compounds with very different pharmacological properties, such as antihypertensive, antiplatelet, anti-inflammatory, antinociceptive, antidepressant, hypoglycemic, antiinfective or anticancer agents, many of them being pyridazin-3(2H)-one derivatives. The pyridazine ring is also included in polycyclic compounds acting as MAO-B inhibitors. However, simple pyridazin-3(2H)-one derivatives have not been described so far as selective MAO-B inhibitors. The present invention provides novel pyridazin-3(2H)-one derivatives substituted at C4, C5 or C6 with several dithiocarbamate moieties that selectively inhibit the MAO-B activity and whose structure is unrelated to those currently available.

The invention aims simultaneously to overcome some of the technical difficulties in the current state of the art, such as i) little or no response in the selective collection of alveolar air fraction ii) the inability to couple systems that allow concentration/extraction of analytes of interest iii) the inexistence of systems to the storage of the collected biofluid under controlled conditions and iv) the inability to collect exhaled air in liquid or vapor state. The university is looking for companies interested in the industrial production of the equipment and its commercialization.
