Floatable Photovoltaic System to generate Electric Energy. Advantage of cooling the Photovoltaic System generating more power under high Global radiationSchwimmfähige Photovoltaikanlage / Floatable Photovoltaic System to produce Electric Energy using floatable Aluminum- plates in thermal contact with Photovoltaic Elements. Weather dependend heating of the Photovoltaic Elements will reduce their efficiency in producing Electric Energy. Cooling the Photovoltaic System (PV) down to receive Electric Power more effiently when exposed under high Global radiation. High Global Radiation (W/m²) could heat up PV e.g. to 60° C and result in a so called "Voltage drop". The Photovoltaic System combined in thermal contact with cooling elements could be used on air. Further Research on this matter is planned.University of Waterloo posted this:
Fluid quality testingFluid (oil, coolant, fuel, etc.) quality assurance, especially with respect to proper engine operation and maintenance (aeronautical and automotive) is very important. For example, the ability for early detection of contaminants in engine oil may be an indicator of an impending catastrophic failure. This information is critical in the safe operation of airplanes and automobiles. Knowing the actual condition of the fluid would also help companies tailor very specific maintenance procedures to each vehicle’s or airplane’s needs. This could have effect of lowering overall maintenance costs by performing costly maintenance services only when they are required.University of Luxembourg posted this:

Fluorescent compound for security inks with higher protection levelFluorescent compound for security inks with higher protection level CSIC has developed an organic fluorescent compound whose emission frequency varies as a function of external stimuli such as pressure and temperature. Therefore, this compound provides a double mechanism of use. The first mechanism consists in the ability of this material to show different colors depending on the angle of incidence of the light. The second mechanism occurs as the temperature increases producing a color change in the material that can be observed under ultraviolet light. Industrial partners, manufacturers of inks, interested into a patent licence agreement for development of different applications for the banking, pharmaceutical and textile sectors are being sought. Fluorescent compounds, methods of manufacturing and uses thereofA group of researchers from a Portuguese university developed a family of new fluorophores to be used in biological imaging, either in cells or in entire organisms, in fluorescence microscopy techniques, including live cell imaging. The fluorophores are not toxic to cells and organisms, and light up cells by binding to organelles such as the Golgi apparatus, nucleus, and particularly lipid droplets. Importantly, the fluorophores change color with the polarity of the environment. The university is looking for companies that would be interested in developing this technology further through partnership, or in commercializing the probes through licensing or acquisition of the patent.Meghan Meyer posted this:

FMRI biomarker of neurodegenerative diseaseInnovative method for identifying people with early, asymptomatic, and advanced, symptomatic, neurodegenerative diseases. This method involves acquiring a functional magnetic resonance image (fMRI) of patient brains at rest or during an activity. The acquired data is used to assess the extent of local regional heterogeneity of neuronal activation (Hcorr). This is an effective approach to detect the presence, staging, and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, and mild cognitive impairment.Lukas Golka posted this:

Foam and Sediments removal including biogas cooling. (FSR&BC)The BTS-FR. Foam and sediments remover and biogas cooling equipment is designed for foam removal, sediments removal, and biogas cooling coming from the digester. With this kind of equipment, the clogging of downstream equipment can be avoided, and the bad instrumentation working and control system. The foam and sediments removal of the biogas is accomplished by two different techniques. First changing the hydrodynamic condition of the biogas stream. Secondly, the gas is subjected to continuous exposure to cold water spray that at the same time allow the biogas cooling. As a result, the foam and other impurities are removal and comes out through the drain located in the down part of the equipment, and at the same time the biogas cooling. The level of cooling depends on the water injection temperature. This equipment is suitable for digester that work in thermophilic conditions

Food Processor employing Pulsed Electric Field (PEF) Technology• Our device uses pulsed electric heating technology to process food at low temperatures (approx. 42⁰C). • High-voltage pulsation is a gentle way of preparing food, in which all healthy substances, especially vitamins, are preserved. • During processing, cell membranes in food cells are opened, which allows better absorption of vitamins and enzymes in the human body. • Food is sterilized by a pulsed electric field and is therefore suitable for direct consumption.

Freezing precipitations detection deviceThe technology is composed by a combination of two wetness sensors, a temperature sensor and a thermal conductive sheet with a radiation sensitive surface (black). The sheet is tilted with borders the way, that directed precipitation can’t access the lower side. One wetness sensor is facing the sky, the other is facing the ground. The temperature sensor measures the temperature of the sheet. If this drops below the air temperature, then dew will cover both sides and the wetness sensors will detect the same signal (no matter if it’s freezing). If rain or snow will fall, then the signal of the upper sensors will be bigger. In combination with the temperature signal there is sufficient information whether a heating of the rain gauge is required or not.Austria Wirtschaftsservice (AWS) posted this:

Frontotemporal Dementia Diagnosis Using Circulating microRNA BiomarkersFrontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorder characterized by frontal and temporal lobe atrophy, typically manifesting with behavioral or language impairment. Because of its heterogeneity and lack of available diagnostic laboratory tests, there can be a substantial delay in diagnosis. Cell-free, circulating, microRNAs (miRNAs) are increasingly investigated as biomarkers for neurodegeneration, but their value in FTD is not yet established. Here, we developed a novel method that enables earlier detection of FTD and accurate identification of patients for clinical trials using circulating, cell-free miRNAs as FTD biomarkers.
