FMRI biomarker of neurodegenerative disease

Summary of the technology

Innovative method for identifying people with early, asymptomatic, and advanced, symptomatic, neurodegenerative diseases. This method involves acquiring a functional magnetic resonance image (fMRI) of patient brains at rest or during an activity. The acquired data is used to assess the extent of local regional heterogeneity of neuronal activation (Hcorr). This is an effective approach to detect the presence, staging, and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s Disease, and mild cognitive impairment.

Benefit

Allows for the identification of people with pre-symptomatic cognitive impairment

A non-invasive method to measure neuronal activation for any functional or anatomical brain region

Provides a method to routinely track progress of patients receiving drug interventions

Quantifies Hcorr, which is a sensitive and reliable measure of neuronal specificity linked to cognitive performance and impairments

Market Application

Method applicable to the detection and staging of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease, mild cognitive impairment, and HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder

Can be used to detect pre-symptomatic onset of Alzheimer’s Disease

Can be used in clinical settings to assess efficacy and progression of treatments targeting cognitive decline
