Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:Artificial vision system for the semaphoric control of the access to parking and garages, through the monitoring of pedestrians.The research group “Intelligent Vehicles and Traffic Technologies” of the Automation Department of the University of Alcalá has developed a procedure for the semaphoric control of the access roads to parkings and garages by monitoring pedestrians using artificial vision. It is a road safety system that ensures that the exit access of the vehicles from the parking is performed safely for pedestrians, by monitoring the different access points to the parking, using a stereoscopic vision system with infrared lighting. The images provided by the stereoscopic vision system are processed by a computer, obtaining information regarding the presence of pedestrians in the vicinity of the monitored access point. This information is used to act on a traffic light that controls the exit access of vehicles. The group looks for licensing agreements, technical cooperation agreements, manufacturing agreements or commercial agreements with technical assistance, with companies from the sector of transport infrastructure and traffic safety.

Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:DriveSafe: App that monitors and scores your driving, generating alerts when it is not safe.The RobeSafe group of the Department of Electronics of the University of Alcalá has developed the application DriveSafe that monitors and evaluates the driving profiles of the drivers generating alerts in real time when they are considered to be unsafe. Placing the mobile device on the vehicle's windshield, the application uses the smartphone's sensors (accelerometers, GPS, rear camera) to get a complete assessment of the driving and create a driver profile that can be checked either on real time during the trip, or reviewed in detail once the route is over. The system requires only a slight calibration. The application has a dual functionality. On the one hand, it provides real-time Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) services, improving the safety of drivers in all types of vehicles (mainly low-end), which otherwise would only be available in premium vehicles high-end. On the other hand, it generates a history of the driver behavior that may be useful to the driver himself or to insurance, logistics or other companies in order to mitigate potential risks and reduce operational costs. The group is looking for companies from the Transport, Insurance or Apps sector to sign technical collaboration agreements, commercial agreements with technical assistance and license agreements.

With this solution the measurements are made without physical contact with any element of the train, it has total immunity to electromagnetic interference (absence of electronics in the pathway) and to the sensor vibration. However, all of them have serious disadvantatges. 1) with software that uses atom-atom potentials: Advantages: fast and capable of working with large molecules. Disadvantages: the "blind tests" carried out by the "Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre" are giving a 50% maximum success in the predictions. 2) with software based on DFT calculations: Advantages: good results Disadvantages: they are computationally very slow, so they are only used for very simple molecules compared with drug molecules. In addition, they have errors predicting van der Waals interactions and weak hydrogen bridges if not corrected empirically. 3) with software using ad hoc potentials for each molecule obtained from systematic exploration of the surface potential of intermolecular interactions: Advantages: efficient and faster. Disadvantages: some potentials should be calculated for each molecule studied, which are complex and slow, and is not general. The approach presented here is new and unique because the potential Pixel has never been used before for drawing polymorphic predictions and it has shown to present the advantages of all the alternatives combined. This is the first research group which has brought the potential Pixel to this level of calculation. The potential calculations and the applicability of the methode based on pixels have the same quality that the sophisticated ab initio based potential calculations. Besides, this is much faster than DFT (Functional-Based Theory)-based and ad hoc potentials ..
