Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:Development and method of construction of a new electrochemical sensor of Magnesium (Mg2 +), without the need to add organic salts, additives or organic solvents to the sampleThe research group in Bioelectrochemistry and Biosensors of the University of Alcalá in collaboration with the Textile Industry Research Association (AITEX) has developed an electrochemical sensor of magnesium (Mg2 +) and a construction method based on the formation of a polymeric three-dimensional network that allows the entrapment / immobilization of a selective indicator for Mg2 +, eriochrome black T, by the use of a crosslinking agent and a polymer. The combination of these three reagents allows the construction of the sensor on any conductive surface, avoiding the electro polymerization of the indicator. The resulting sensor allows to measure MG2 + in any type of samples, without the need to add organic salts, additives or organic solvents. The quantification of Mg2 + is done directly by incubating the sensor in the sample containing the analyte, resulting in a modification of the amperometric signal proportional to its concentration. This method has many applications especially in health and biomedical sector since Mg2 + participates in such important activities as neuronal, neuromuscular transmission, or regulation of blood pressure and plays a key role in various pathologies such as vascular and migraines headache. The group is looking for companies in the agro-food, bio-sanitary and environmental sectors, with the aim of reaching technical collaboration agreements, commercial agreements or patent licenses.

A research group from the University of Alcalá has developed a method that allows a real-time analysis, faster and visual, with comparable results. This method for sensory positioning is based on the opinions of a group of untrained tasters and / or consumers, processed by software that uses geometric techniques rather than statistics. The group seeks to reach commercial agreements with technical assistance with companies in the agrofood sector.

The procedure allows to detect adulterations with gardenia in an unambiguous and sensitive way. A problem not solved at present by any other existing methods. The membranes are produced by an electrospinning process in aqueous solution from mixtures of water soluble polyacids and polyols, which are subsequently stabilized by a thermal curing process and post-functionalized by the incorporation of amino-terminated dendrimers by a grafting process using a coupling agent. The material can be applied to the treatment of drinking water, to the regeneration of waste water, to the treatment of process waters and also to the controlled release of active substances, such as drugs, food preservatives, etc. The group seeks companies from the pharmaceutical, food, material technology and environmental sectors to sign technical cooperation agreements, commercial agreement with technical assistance and patent licensing agreements.

These bacteriocins exhibit a broad spectrum of biological activities: - bacteriocin BacSp222 is able to kill a variety of Gram+ bacteria strains, including the methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA) strain. It is also cytotoxic towards selected eukaryotic cells and is resistant to action of proteolytic enzymes (either eukaryotic or prokaryotic) as well as to high temperature. One of its research areas is the analysis of biomedical. The algorithm obtained allows detecting in an early stage the appearance of allergic reactions during the exposure or provocation test are made in a hospital. This system is based on the measurement of the heart rate variability. With this methodology the time of exposure to the tests is reduced therefore the stress for the patient decreases.
