Nasal spray with antiviral activityCSIC and Universitat de València have developed novel polysaccharides that are effective in treatment and prevention of viral infections. These compounds are mimics of heparan sulfates, naturally occurring sulfated polysaccharides present in cells. They act as decoy trap preventing the virus from adhering to epithelial cells, thus slowing down the process of infection. Their antiviral activity has been successfully tested for SARS-CoV-2 and Respiratory Syncytial Virus. Industrial partners from pharmaceutical industry interested in a patent licence agreement for further development and commercial exploitation of this technology are being sought. Natural compound with antiviral properties against hepatitis CCSIC, IISA, IACS, the University of Zaragoza and ARAID have discovered a natural compound with antiviral capacity against the virus that causes hepatitis C. The compound is extracted from a natural and edible source, non-toxic and cheap and shows a virus inhibition capacity superior to that of commercial drugs currently used in the treatment of this disease Pharmaceutical companies are being sought to collaborate through a patent licence agreement for the “in vivo” trials and for the subsequent commercialization.Incr-Edible Ingredients posted this:

NBenefit$® − A web-based (geo) tool for monetary and biophysical valuation of costs and benefits associated with the implementation of nature-based solutions (NBS) in citiesNBenefit$ allows to calculate the value of ecosystem services and other socio-economic metrics for nature-based solutions, using a map to select the application area (georeferenced) and calling system dynamics precalculated values to implement those metrics. The software is implemented as a visualization web interface where the end-user (decision-maker, urban planner, etc.) is asked to create spatial and time-dependent scenarios of possible implementation of NBS in cities. He can then run simulations to quantify the potential socio-economic impacts associated with those scenarios (in terms of site-specific biophysical and climatic conditions and land management characteristics), using archetypal NBS (i.e. pre-parameterized models of NBS types, e.g. urban forests, tree corridors, etc.). This allows NBenefit$ is to inform built environment professionals and decision makers about the cost-effectiveness of different NBS alternatives from early to advance planning and design stages. More specifically, NBenefit$ employs pre-calculated archetypes and scenarios making use of a system dynamics modelling framework of NBS. A proof-of-concept model for urban forests on a pilot case in Madrid (Spain) is currently operational in NBenefit$. [On a restricted area?][]This model calculates ES supplied by urban NBS in biophysical units, which are later transformed into monetary units that can be used as inputs in costs-benefits analyses. Additional costs and externalities along the life cycle of NBS are also accounted for and incorporated as inputs to the costs-benefits analysis. NBenefit$ is currently in a stage of development equivalent to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 5. It means that the components of the modelling framework, and its associated online tool, are fully integrated together and have been successfully tested in simulated environments.

New Aerial Transport System – ATS proposes implementing a new and innovative concept on dynamically charging electrical aircraft -EA aiming at reducing Greenhouse gases and other emissions affecting the society as a whole.Dynamically charging Electrical Aircraft refers to power transfer between the charging infrastructure and the vehicle while the vehicle is moving. Plug-in systems have some inherent issues that hinder the wide adoption of electric aircraft EA. A major obstacle is the time needed to recharge the batteries. Typically, recharging lasts for several hours when using low voltage and amperage power outlets, which limits the usage of EA. Dynamic charging aims at alleviating some of these issues thus easing the path towards large-scale adoption of aerial electromobility. In principle, dynamic charging solution allows power to be continuously supplied to the vehicle from an external source, thus enabling a significant reduction of the on-board battery size and, at the same time, reducing virtually to zero the time the vehicle needs to stop for the recharging operations and the related range anxiety. The reduction in battery size allows a lighter vehicle to be realized in comparison to other EA. A reduction is therefore expected in terms of energy required for traction and related CO2 emissions. In addition, CO2 emissions related to the energy required for the production of the battery should also benefit from a reduction of the size of the on-board pack.
