Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:Novel Synchronization Process for Multi-carrier or Single-carrier CommunicationsThe research group “Communications, Multirate Systems, and Biomedical Engineering” of the University of Alcala presents a novel synchronization procedure for multicarrier or single carrier systems for narrowband and broadband communications. This procedure allows a precise estimation of the symbol timing offset (STO), and a coarse estimation of carrier frequency offset (CFO). The procedure is based on the inclusion of symmetric extensions in the transmitted symbols for the synchronization, which makes it useful not only for communications systems based on the discrete Fourier transform, but also for transceivers based on the discrete cosine transform (DCT). Among its main applications are communications through single-mode optical fiber, powerline communications, wireless and wireline systems, and in general, all the techniques that use multicarrier and single carrier modulations. The group seeks companies from the telecommunications sector to sign technical cooperation agreements, commercial agreement with technical assistance and patent licensing agreements.

Our technology automatizes the process by automatically detecting terms and term combinations appearing in the documents that may disclose sensitive information. The invention aims to increase the throughput of current cellular communication systems. The advantages of this technology in relation to existing solutions are: 1) the throughput is enhanced and proportional to the square root of the number of transmitter/receiver pairs. 2) the interference is canceled using only outdated channel gain information and the interference removal procedure is distributed. Such assessments are highly prohibitive, preventing the real time and efficient analysis. Other approaches use comparisons of individual behaviors with normal patterns. However, these approaches are tedious and unreliable. This novel procedure allows for the use of a sensing system (comprising video and multi-sensor information) for real-time detection of the behavior of a large, dense crowd.

This process applies techniques of the digital image processing such as pixel segmentation, recognition and selection of regions, as well as operations in the regions found within digital images with the purpose of detecting nudity. The segmentation under the colour HSV model is used for locating and separating the pixels corresponding to human skin, as well as the algorithm RSOR for recognising and separating the region with the highest number of skin pixels within the segmented image (highest region) and evaluating the digital images.

It is useful for the connection of a distributed generation system to a bipolar DC grid. For these applications, the proposed topology is a solution with sufficient guarantees of reliability, quality and performance. The converter circuit is very simple, it includes three inductors, four capacitors, two diodes and a power switch as a switching device.
