Tantalum foams for orthopaedic applications- Easy manufacture. - High degree of porosity (60-80%), high interconnectivity between pores and with a pore diameter greater than 100 µm allowing vascular invasion and bone inward. - With a specially roughened surface topography. - The Young’s modulus (0.5-2%GPa) is very close to that of subchondral bone, enhancing the mechanical biocompatibility. - High surface roughness in conjunction with a low elastic modulus cause fric-tion between the outer surface of the foam and the surrounding bone. It is ap-proximately 1.5 times greater than the friction produced by conventional mesh systems or with titanium or cobalt-chromium spherules, achieving an excel-lent primary stability of the implant.Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - UPC posted this:

Tar and toxic compound reducing filters in tobacco smoke from a fibrous rodThe Institute of Chemical Process Engineering of the University of Alicante has developed a filter that reduces tars and toxic compounds in tobacco smoke by up to 75%.This filter is characterised by one or more tapers arranged between the end that is in contact with the column of tobacco smoke and the end that is in contact with the smoker's mouth. These tapers selectively condense the noxious products without altering the aroma and taste of the tobacco, keeping the sensory perceptions experienced by the smoker intact. This technology is characterised by the fact that it can be easily implemented in conventional filter cigarette manufacturing machines for large-scale production. The technology is patent protected. Companies interested in acquiring this technology for worldwide commercial exploitation are being sought.Vilnius University posted this:

Technique to obtain a medical image from elastic properties of tissuesTechnique to obtain a medical image from elastic properties of tissues CSIC and the Polytechnic University of Valencia have developed a technique that substantially improves the medical image generated from the study of the elastic properties of soft tissues. This information allows a better medical diagnosis to be made and to detect possible abnormalities in the tissue that can develop as a result of pathology. In this way, changes in the elastic properties of tissues are associated with possible diseases, such as cancer. Industrial partners dedicated to the development of medical imaging devices are being sought to collaborate through a patent licence agreement. An offer for Patent LicensingIMDEA Energy posted this:

Technology for leachate treatment coming from the landfillInertization is a physical-chemical process that allows modifying the leaching characteristics of waste. In the leachate´s case from the dump and other similar liquids, it makes them a solid that is easy to handle and suitable for management in MSW landfills or other applications. The inerting of leachates from reverse osmosis or evaporation plants consists of mixing these concentrates with the appropriate reagents, generally in powder form, to give rise to an inert solid product by chemical reaction.

Technology for locating injured people in areas without mobile phone coverageThe technology developed by researchers at the University of Alicante allows the use of a smartphone to locate people injured in remote environments where there is no mobile phone coverage (GSM/UMTS). The smartphone emits a Wi-Fi signal that acts as a distress beacon and can reach a distance of several kilometers. The system allows to locate exactly the injured and can be implemented on any Android smartphone model. This technology is especially suitable for situations where there is no possibility of establishing communication using mobile phone networks and where speed in the rescue is essential to save lives. Two areas have been identified where the system can be vital: rescue of people in high mountain and sea rescue (man on the water).

Technology offer: Food quality testingBackground Food quality assurance, especially in the food processing industry, has never been more important in keeping with increased global trade and associated quality/safety regulations. It is advantageous to food processing companies to be able to monitor the quality of their foods in real time, thereby allowing them to identify and respond to any potential issues quickly and at minimal cost. The cost of dealing with issues related to the safety and quality of food once the product has reached the end consumer can be very expensive and detrimental to a company’s reputation.University of Waterloo posted this:
Technology offer: Nanofluidic chip systemBackground The study of in-liquid samples using microscopy (electron and optical) requires the implementation of nanofluidics, very sensitive equipment that is able to manipulate the fluid in a very precise manner. The main current problem in nanofluidics is to truly achieve liquid flow in the viewing area of the chip. Having control on the liquid flow, and up to some extend on liquid layer thickness, is essential to achieve repeatability and high resolution in electron and optical microscopy experiments. Moreover, in cases when liquid mixing, stop flow, and electrochemical capabilities are needed true liquid flow becomes a must; it is certainly crucial to succeed with time-resolved optical and electron scattering experiments. There currently is a need for a complete Nanofluidic System optimized for controlled “true” high-flow (high throughput of in-liquid samples) for high resolution electron and optical microscopy studies.University of Waterloo posted this:

Technology to Modify Alcohol Content in Alcoholic BeveragesThe company has developed an innovative process which removes only the alcohol while preserving all other flavours in beer. The patented technology is currently in system prototype state (TRL 6) and the company is keen to partner with global breweries and other global beverage companies to develop low-alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. Shifting beverage consumption patterns along with rising preference for low liquor content beverages are the key factor propelling non-alcoholic beer demand. Increasing health awareness among consumers towards the harmful effects of liquor coupled with changing lifestyle is expected to propel industry growth. Considerable shift of young individuals to purchase a variety of alcohol-free or low alcohol variants is expected to drive product penetration. The changing demographic trends of growing Muslim population has also provided a positive outlook for non-alcoholic beer market. But TASTE is still a major issue which has held back a real boom of non-alcoholic beer. Market shares could easily rise to 20-25% of total sales volume from today's 3-4%, if the right technology comes along. Current biological or physical processes so far used to remove or prevent alcohol often also remove taste-related flavours or alter the flavour profile of the finished product.

Technology transfer, J-V or Franchise of design of Small city electromobile and low-CAPEX technology of production We are a Czech designing and developing company and we have developed in cooperation with the Technical University an atractive Small Electric Vehicle of category L/6/L7 for the city transportation. Vehicles are designed for manufacturing in micro-factories close to consumer markets, to optimize logistics & increase the efficiency of supply chains. We have designed tools for its low-cost production. We are convinced that Small Electric Vehicles are the optimal solution of individual city transpot and we bring a chance to participate on this growing market while the sale of vehicles with the internal combustion will be reduced. We offer to a competent and forward-looking entities planning to develop an international business a Licence to produce Small City Electromobile according to our know-how. We presume that this project may draw your attention because it saves money and time than starting from zero. The development of the present model took about 4 years, the prototype of delivery van is about 90 – 95 % finished (Technology readiness level 6 – 7), hatch back is 70 % finished but still needs more testing (like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grYYJCWyp9g ????), improving and debugging in order to complete the homologation process. We expect that the production will be possible within one year. The big carmakers who until recently did not show interest in small city vehicles also start to realize the business opportunity of this category, and even unite their powers (Toyota, Suzuki, Daihatsu) in order not to miss the boat. Development usually takes about 3 - 6 years but the cards are dealt now. After 5 years it might be late. The basic version of the vehicle is equipped only with the items necessary for driving and safety. For easy and cheap production the body is made from a light, firm and cheap thermoplastic, and a light self-supporting chassis is made from specially designed aluminum profiles. Due to the atypical slantwise allocation of seats, the length of the vehicle is only 2 500 mm which enables the perpendicular kerbside parking which is so demanded by carriers and delivery services.Scott Inwood posted this:
