Stress and metabolic monitoring system to improve fish productionCSIC through the Instituto de Acuicultura “Torre de la Sal” and the Instituto de Microelectrónica de Barcelona - Centro Nacional de Microelectrónica, and the Universidad de las Palmas de Gran Canaria have developed a novel smart system which warns about changes on the fish behavior responding to external factors which are controllable in a fish farm. The system is a small, less invasive and harmless device that allows fish farmers to identify stressed fish and to perform selective breeding in a more efficient manner. This helps to set more strict and reliable welfare fish standards. Industrial partners dedicated to the manufacture or development of fish farming (vaccines, feed) and/or fish farms monitoring products are being sought to collaborate through a patent licence agreement.

STRUCTR - Low-Code Dev. Platform combined with Graph TechnologyLESS CODE MORE APPLICATION: Structr is the unique low code platform, which uses graph technology and is open source. Our goal is to deliver best-quality, innovative solutions and individual software development. The brand Structr was established in 2010 when Axel started the software project of the same name. In 2011, when his brother Christian joined the project, the two brothers founded a company which has been renamed to Structr GmbH in 2015. The visualization of the data and program structures as a graph accelerates the development and makes the results easily comprehensible for everyone at any time. Since 2010, we have been supporting companies around the globe in their digital transformation by implementing projects based on our unique Structr software platform. What makes Structr special is that not only the data itself but also the entire definition of the software application built with the Structr platform is stored in a graph database.

Structural wood system without metallic elementsResearchers from the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Alicante have developed a new system to build wooden constructions in a fast, resistant and efficient way without the need to use metallic elements (steel), adhesives or concrete, thus increasing the useful life of the wood. This system is modular and therefore reduces the assembly time of the house. As it is a standardised and automatable process, it is also possible to reduce manufacturing time and costs. The system, which is protected by a patent application, has been developed on a laboratory scale and would therefore require further development for its market introduction. Companies in the wood construction sector interested in a possible commercial exploitation of the technology are sought.Universidad de Granada posted this:
Sturgeon cartilage biomaterial for tissue regeneration.Researchers from the University of Granada and the Andalusian Health Service have been developed a new biomaterial for tissue engineering that uses decellularized sturgeon cartilage for the first time. SUBSTRATES FOR THE CULTURE AND STIMULATION OF NEURAL CELLSThis project includes the development of a new generation of sensors and electrodes based on nanotechnological materials of neural interfacing. The aims is to design and produce a prototype of an active implant that could work directly at the spinal-cord level. This implant will allow restoring the transmission of electrical signals in injured axon tracks of the spinal cord. Due to some limitations, electrodes are currently placed at the brain to detected electric potentials, or at the muscles to trigger functional electrical stimulation (FES). The research proved that the nano-structure of these electrodes can offer an enhanced adhesion as well as efficiency when compared to conventional FES electrodes. The main object of the project is to develop a cost-effective, biocompatible and easy to use. The use of the substrate of the invention wherein its textured surface has a plurality of protrusions, it presents improved interaction with cells and allows the growing of active cell cultures on it.Atoptima posted this:

Super resolution from a single visual sourceMany imaging devices produce signals of unsatisfactory resolution (e.g. a photo from a cell-phone camera may have low spatial resolution or a video from a web camera may have both spatial and temporal low resolution). Previous methods for Super-Resolution (SR) require multiple images of the same scene, or else an external database of examples. This method applies digital processing to reconstruct more satisfactory high-resolution signals. ). The algorithm exploits the inherent local data redundancy within visual signals (redundancy both within the same scale and across different scales). This method provides the ability to perform SR from a single image (or a single visual source. Additional examples of the methods' capabilities can be found here: http://www.wisdom.weizmann.ac.il/~vision/SingleImageSR.html%20%20 [1]Yeda posted this:
Super-Resolution Using Unsupervised Deep Internal NetworkOptical and dimensional limitations of images can be partially overcome today using signal enhancement technologies which typically rely on supervised, deep-learning methods. However, as existing methods are restricted to specific training images and distortion types, they provide poor results for any practical case, unless huge set of data-pairs exist and all share the same exact distortion type. The current invention enables signal enhancement of low-resolution images, by exploiting deviations from expected internal patch recurrences detected within the image itself. More specifically, the approach leverages cross-scale internal repetition of image-specific information, which is trained, at test time, on internal examples extracted solely from the test image. This first unsupervised conventional neural network (CNN)-based super-resolution approach allows for signal enhancement of real-world images acquired under suboptimal, unknown or image-specific conditions and has been shown to outperform state-of-the-art technologies.

SUPERFICIAL DEVICE FOR EMITTING ELECTRONS FROM AN ARRANGEMENT OF SILICON CARBIDE BARRIERSThe present invention is related to a superficial emitter of electrons which emits electrons from a micrometric Graphene arrangement over silicon carbide. The emitter consists in a plurality of SiC barriers which are highly close and similar and which axes are parallel there between, formed by self-alignment with an equidistant separation. The operation of the device at low voltage is useful for obtaining an efficient emission, which results from the quantic mechanical tunneling between the barriers of the electrons injected from the cathode contact.Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla posted this:

Suppression of Impulsive Noise for 4G cell phonesUVIGO telecom engineers have developed a novel methodology to suppress the impulsive noise present in Long Term Evolution (LTE) cell phone systems. These systems that utilize multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) techniques are already used in fourth generation (4G) cell phones and are expected to undergo further development in a near future. The presence of impulsive noise can be detected comparing the signals received by different antennas, the subsequent application of a enhanced algorithm leads readily to the suppression of the deleterious effect of the impulsive noise on the radio signal. To date, no other methods have been specifically developed for LTE. Innovative aspects and advantagesUniversity of Vigo posted this:
Suppression of Impulsive Noise for Power Line CommunicationsPower Line Communications (PLC) is an emerging field that enables to carry data on a conductor that is also used simultaneously for AC electric power transmission or electric power distribution to consumers. The widespread use of these technologies is however, compromised by the presence of impulsive noise that arises from interferences generated by devices connected to the power line. Therefore removal of impulsive noise is critical to get a high performance of PLC systems. UVIGO researchers have developed a novel methodology to mitigate impulsive noise by monitoring those carriers of the radiofrequency spectrum that are free of transmission in PLC systems. The identification of the noise signals allows its selective removal keeping the quality of the overall PLC signal.
