Germans Trias i Pujol Health Sciences Research Institute posted this:Apotransferrin to treat strokeOur group has demonstrated that intravenous administration of apotransferrin strongly reduces the brain damage (up to 75%) in 3 different rat models including both transient and permanent ischemic stroke and improves the neurological impairment (neuroscore 60%) induced by stroke. Thus, this new approach may benefit not only stroke patients who can be treated with current treatment to induce recanalization (transient stroke) but also the 80% of patients who could not benefit from current therapies directed to induce recanalization of the artery (permanent strokes). Results in the preclinical area and some results obtained in serum of stroke patients lead us to think that apotransferrin is a good neuroprotector in the early stages of the ischemic event.

Unfortunately, the industrial application of the olefin metathesis reaction (especially in the production of macrocyclic rings in the RCM reaction) is currently experiencing difficulties such as: - lack of selectivity and product competition (a major problem with RCMs leading to large macrocyclic rings to minimize the problem of high dilution, but it clearly increases the cost of the process) - displacement of reaction equilibrium (RCM reaction is an equilibrium process, so to move the process towards the formation of products it is necessary to react under reduced pressure) - migration of double bond C = C (migration within the substrates as well as target product due to side reactions. This inconvenience can be eliminated by using, for example, quinones - unfortunately, this elimination is only partial.) - the need to use a homogeneous ruthenium catalyst (a large amount of catalyst is required to reach the reaction, reaching over 20 mol%). The present invention relates to a process for the production of cyclic compounds in the olefin metathesis reaction and the use of ruthenium catalysts for the production of cyclic olefins in olefin metathesis reactions. The solution through optimization, overcomes the current problems. The expected product is obtained with high efficiency and selectivity. The method can find extensive use in organic synthesis, requiring metathetic ring closure (RCM), among others in the fragrance industry. Advantages of the presented solution from UW: 1. high process efficiency 2. high selectivity 3. low cost of synthesis

Assessing ecological risk from pollutants requires preliminary research into the emission and transport of contaminating substances in the environment and the exposure to which live organisms may be subjected. Likewise, laboratory and/or field experiments help evaluate the toxic effects caused by different pollutants and exposure patterns. Finally, the results of these studies are combined to calculate the likelihood of ecosystems being affected by the use of potentially toxic substances.

It is a road safety system that ensures that the exit access of the vehicles from the parking is performed safely for pedestrians, by monitoring the different access points to the parking, using a stereoscopic vision system with infrared lighting. The images provided by the stereoscopic vision system are processed by a computer, obtaining information regarding the presence of pedestrians in the vicinity of the monitored access point. This information is used to act on a traffic light that controls the exit access of vehicles. The group looks for licensing agreements, technical cooperation agreements, manufacturing agreements or commercial agreements with technical assistance, with companies from the sector of transport infrastructure and traffic safety.
