Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - UPC posted this:Reconfigurable beam reflectarray antenna for frequencies in the range of terahertz and millimeter waveThe reflectarray antenna consists of a flat array of phase-shifter cells (reflectarray) illuminated by a feeder, which produces an electronically reconfigurable collimated or shaped beam, where the cells (3b) consist of several stacked layers of conductive elements (4c, 4e, 4d, 4f) on a dielectric substrate (7c, 7d) alternated with layers of liquid crystal (5c, 5d) and a conductive plane (9). Applying bias voltages in the conducting elements, the dielectric constant of the liquid crystal varies producing a phase shift of the reflected field in each cell, allowing for a electronic beam scanning or reconfiguration. Including multiple layers of conductive elements and liquid crystal, improves the bandwidth and the performance of the beam scanning or reconfiguration. The antenna can be applied to observation satellites, communications and security systems.

While current FTTH networks as GPON and EPON can reach a maximum of 32-64 users, the proposed PON can serve more than 4000 users, thanks to a new device for distributing the signal among the users that intelligently recycles the noise generated by other elements of the network. Partners to further develop the device and/or to establish license agreements with technical cooperation are sought.

The technology described herein extends for the first time the conventional superregenerative receiver to be able to detect PSK signals with a minimum of additional circuitry. Taking advantage of both the lowcomplexity and low-power from superregenerative receivers and the more efficient power transmission achieved by PSK modulations. Partners to further develop the system and/or to establish commercial agreements along with technical cooperation are sought.

It is used in the Internet of things, blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, key exchange, for example, in instant messengers, or as an independent mean of protection. The cryptosystem is resistant to hacking, including a quantum computer through the use of NP-hard in a quantum sense problem. The university is looking for partners for furtherance on the Russian and international markets.
Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization of Novosibirsk State University posted this:Resistant to hacking by a quantum computer electronic digital signatureResearchers of Novosibirsk State University have developed a revolutionary algorithm for quantum-stable digital signature based on results of fundamental research in mathematics. Moreover, they implemented the algorithm as a software prototype. The cryptographic stability of the digital signature guarantees information security when using it in e-economics, the Internet of things and other areas in the post-quantum era. The stability of the algorithm is ensured by solving the problem that is an NP-hard (non-polinomial intractable) in the quantum sense. The university is looking for partners to commercialize the technology in international markets.

In a collaborative environment, this kind of data pool often makes sense, but with the drawback that someone who has provided data to the pool, loses control about who had accessed what file. This transparency of access is often required, e.g. for billing purposes or to fulfil the transparency rule of the new general data protection regulation. There are several options to solve this problem including the use of central systems or logging that involves the source of data. Usually these options introduce single points of failure. The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology offers a blockchain based method that is filed as a patent (patent pending) that avoids these single points of failure but still offers the benefits of redundant distributed file storage and still being able to audit selective the access of files.

Spanish National Research Council posted this:Energy harvesting from ambient vibrations for wireless sensors applicationResearchers from the Spanish National Research Council at the Barcelona Microelectronics Institute (IMB-CNM) have recently developed a mechanical energy harvesting device by using a low-cost microelectronic fabrication process. The device acts as an electrical generator and is driven by environmentally-available mechanical energy such as ambient vibrations. Due to its flexibility and small size, it is of easy integration as power generator permitting the provision of full power autonomy to any wireless sensor node during its lifecycle into a network infrastructure following the philosophy “install and forget”. Industrial partners are being sought to exploit the existing know-how through a patent license agreement.
