Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:Novel Synchronization Process for Multi-carrier or Single-carrier CommunicationsThe research group “Communications, Multirate Systems, and Biomedical Engineering” of the University of Alcala presents a novel synchronization procedure for multicarrier or single carrier systems for narrowband and broadband communications. This procedure allows a precise estimation of the symbol timing offset (STO), and a coarse estimation of carrier frequency offset (CFO). The procedure is based on the inclusion of symmetric extensions in the transmitted symbols for the synchronization, which makes it useful not only for communications systems based on the discrete Fourier transform, but also for transceivers based on the discrete cosine transform (DCT). Among its main applications are communications through single-mode optical fiber, powerline communications, wireless and wireline systems, and in general, all the techniques that use multicarrier and single carrier modulations. The group seeks companies from the telecommunications sector to sign technical cooperation agreements, commercial agreement with technical assistance and patent licensing agreements.
University of Vigo posted this:Suppression of Impulsive Noise for 4G cell phonesUVIGO telecom engineers have developed a novel methodology to suppress the impulsive noise present in Long Term Evolution (LTE) cell phone systems. These systems that utilize multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) techniques are already used in fourth generation (4G) cell phones and are expected to undergo further development in a near future. The presence of impulsive noise can be detected comparing the signals received by different antennas, the subsequent application of a enhanced algorithm leads readily to the suppression of the deleterious effect of the impulsive noise on the radio signal. To date, no other methods have been specifically developed for LTE.

The invention is targeted to equalize the the chromatic dispersion impairments in high-speed coherent optical communication systems. This method will allow a minimization of the hardware and power consumption requirements of electronic devices in real-time implementations, due to its low complexity when compared with existent solutions. The University is seeking for optical telecommunications industries which may pretend to include this technology on their portfolio, in order to minimize the hardware and power consumption requirements of coherent transceivers.
Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:Signal demodulating devices through a Wavelet OFDM receiver (for broadband signal reception)A research group of the Department of Signal Theory and Telecommunications of the Universidad de Alcalá has developed demodulation procedures for broadband signal reception. The proposed approach implements a Wavelet OFDM receiver, based on modulated filter banks according to the Extended Lapped Transform. This modulation technique has been proposed in data transmission for broadband power line communications (PLC), and presents the following characteristics: a) a greater spectral separation between the subcarriers; b) more noise immunity, including narrow band interference impulsive. A block channel equalization is also incorporated in the frequency domain, which includes a parallel sine-modulated filter bank. This invention can be used in all those techniques with multicarrier modulation based on Wavelet OFDM in the transmitter. The group looks for ICT companies to achieve manufacturing agreements and commercial agreements with technical assistance.

Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:New set of software tools for the strategic planning of 2nd and 3rd generation mobile networks and its extension to networks of 4th generation LTEThe principal potential of these tools lies in the use of very advanced algorithms of planning of mobile networks that allow to optimized the network from the point of view of the investment that has to be done by the operator. The current commercial models are usually based on small programmes done in Excell that evidently does not have the optimum potential of these heuristic developed in languages of high-level programming. These tools provide the necessary information to the cost model LRIC Bottom Up defined by the European Commission. Operators and governments of different countries already have used the tools that are described in this document.
