Universidad de Alicante posted this:New metal-free electrocatalysts for fuel cellsThe Carbon Materials and Environment Research Group of the University of Alicante has developed a new method for obtaining carbon materials with excellent properties such as electrocatalysts in fuel cells or metal-air batteries. The process is based on the thermal treatment of polyaniline (or its derivatives) at high temperature and allows to obtain metal-free carbon materials with a high performance, in a very simple, fast way and in a single stage. These novel materials are characterized by their excellent catalytic activity and selectivity in the oxygen reduction reaction in alkaline medium, they are very stable and resistant to methanol and carbon monoxide poisoning, and above all, they stand out for their low manufacturing cost, which makes them promising candidates to replace the current commercial platinum-based catalysts. We are looking for companies interested in acquiring this technology for commercial exploitation.
Graft Polymer UK Ltd posted this:Project: Innovative pilot production modified compounds by PE125 standard for multifunctional applications.Producing PE125 using GRAFTALEN™ MP-UHHD. Consumer properties, which should be taken into consideration: 1) The unique toughness of the material (the highest rate of all known polymers), namely, Over 160 kJ/m2 2) High abrasion resistance 3) Low friction coefficient (self-lubricating) 4) High resistance to chemically aggressive reagents (media) 5) High creep resistance (geometric stability) Ordinary way - This type of process is quite expensive. Production of PE125, in compounding with bimodal PE100, from 8 to 45% of supermolecular polyethylene is injected, reaching dispersion by multiple compounding (4 stages) in an extruder cascade (XXXXX technology). GRAFTALEN™ MP-UHHD (alloy) is a MELT-PROCESSABLE concentrate of UHMWPE on an HDPE matrix. As HDPE, you can choose the most affordable HDPE (pipe) grade. To obtain polyethylene according to the standards PE125 (with a minimum strength indicator MRS> 13.8-14 MPa, in comparison PE100 has MRS only 10 MPa), a significant improvement in the resistance against hydrostatic pressure is required. For a conventional bimodal HDPE, this indicator is difficult to achieve, since it directly correlates with the impact strength/density indicators and with simple extrapolation, it turns out that the required indicator for PE125 simply does not reach the bimodal HDPE matrix. Another problem - the difficulty in maintaining the geometric stability of the pipe (the thickness at the top of the pipe is often less than at the bottom) due to the sagging effect (the phenomenon of the gravitational flow of a polymer melt). This phenomenon is more pronounced for thick-walled pipes. The specific blend of HDPE with UHMWPE allows solving these problems above.

Reduces the pore structure and allows a thinner anodic layer while producing with superior characteristics. An example of corrosion improvement is in 2024 aluminum where a .001" thick layer passed 336 hour salt spray with no problem and a .006" layer with no seal coat exceeded 200 hours in Type II anodizing. Parts in salt spray won 6061 have been in salt spray since Dec 2009 with no corrosion and wear in type 2 is equal or superior to Hard Coat

This invention therefore relates to a variable displacement vane pump and the variations in the fluid’s flow rate conveyed by the pump for a given rotation is achieved by changing a longitudinal length of the chambers, and not by changing the eccentricity between the ring and the rotor. This is the main difference between this and the variable flow vane pumps currently available. The university is looking for companies that develop and produce oil pumps to license this technology.

This invention constitutes a fast, efficient and accurate method for the quantification of these contaminants, found in items ranging from detergents and pesticides to plastics, textiles and fuels. The apparatus has already been successfully tested in real samples and demonstrated to be faster and more efficient than the commonly used techniques for the quantification of AF, not requiring additional steps, namely, for sample preparation.

The term MQL, "Minimal Quantity of Lubricant", refers to the use of a low lubricant flow (10 to 100 mL / hr) through a high pressure fluid (compressed air). This system is an alternative to most lubrication systems used in machining operations, with both economically and ecological level advantages, contributing to sustainable manufacturing. This system stands out for its optimal functioning, automation, low cost and good portability. It allows a good lubrication and a good cooling of the machined piece, dry chips, a cleaner desktop, thus ensuring a higher yield and environmental improvement.
