The different species of the genus Potyvirus cause losses of up to 90% of production in crops of high economic interest, such as potato, maize or sugar cane. So far, the only way to identify that the crop was being attacked by a virus of the genus Potyvirus was to make specific detections for each species of the genus. With this new system it is possible to determine if in the samples coming from a culture there is presence of one of the 148 known species of the genus Potyvirus or of some unknown variant of these species. Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:Service of plant in vitro culture and genetic characterization, focused on forest tree species.The research group on Agroforestry Biotechnology at Alcalá University and the INIA's Unit on Forest Tree Genomics offer a mixed service consisting of micropropagation and plant genotyping, focused on forest tree species, through in vitro culture and molecular markers of high discriminatory power. The in vitro culture is carried out at facilities of Alcalá University, being the INIA the institution in charge of the plant genotyping for their delivery once they have been molecularly characterized. Other plants obtained by other means can be also genotyped as well. Both institutions seek to reach commercial agreements with forestry, reforestation, horticultural companies, plant nurseries, companies specialized on cultivation of woody species to obtain biomass, agrarian transformation companies, ornamental companies and municipalities or local administrations interested in the maintenance of native species. Also, this service would be of special interest for pharmaceutical companies in obtaining bioproducts in general (i.e. willow-Acetyl Salicylic Acid, yew-Taxol, Maritime Pine-Pycnogenol and other active ingredients), and chemical companies interested in obtaining resins and other derivatives.

This insect is known for its efficiency and high specificity predatory sirphid being more suitable as biological control agent against agricultural pests from aphids in a Mediterranean climate crops. The use of this natural enemy for biological control of pests will reduce pesticide use in both agricultural crops and in urban gardens. Have been optimized environmental conditions for breeding, such as diet (both immature and adult stages) to ensure a higher reproductive potential and higher rates of survival. The group is looking for companies interested in acquiring the technology for commercial exploitation. Innovative aspects 1- The only species of industrially produced sirphid (Episyphus balteatus) does not effectively control aphid pests in Mediterranean cultures, this is why the selection of another species of sirphid to act as a viable alternative in the field Mediterranean was needed. The novelty of this specie is that and in most cases of biological control, using species that are commercially available, or not part of the fauna, in this case, we have managed to breed the species in field trials, proved to have the greatest potential for control. 2- This is the first time that this predator specie is bred in the laboratory and maintain continuously during successive generations breeding in significant amounts from individuals. 3- Due to the invention has been developed by a consolidated research group, it will be applied a Quality Control (under the rules of the International Organisation for Biological and Integrated Control), to ensure the viability and product quality
