Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:Intelligent regulation system of pedestrian crossings by monitoring the waiting areas and adaptive traffic light controlThe research group Intelligent Vehicles and Traffic Technologies of the Automation Department of the University of Alcalá has developed a system that allows the intelligent control of the opening and closing times of a traffic light that governs a pedestrian crossing, especially in urban areas. It is a road safety system that ensures that pedestrian traffic at pedestrian crossings is carried out safely, while optimizing the opening and closing times of traffic lights, achieving an improvement in traffic flow in urban areas. For this purpose, the monitoring of waiting areas for pedestrian crossings is carried out by means of a stereoscopic vision system with infrared illumination. The images provided by the stereoscopic vision system are processed by a computer, obtaining information regarding the presence of pedestrians in the waiting areas. This information is used to act on a traffic light that controls the pedestrian crossing. The group is looking for licensing agreements, technical cooperation agreements, manufacturing agreements and commercial agreements with technical assistance with companies in the sector of transport infrastructure and traffic safety as well as public institutions, such as municipalities and councils.

Placing the mobile device on the vehicle's windshield, the application uses the smartphone's sensors (accelerometers, GPS, rear camera) to get a complete assessment of the driving and create a driver profile that can be checked either on real time during the trip, or reviewed in detail once the route is over. The system requires only a slight calibration. The application has a dual functionality. On the one hand, it provides real-time Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) services, improving the safety of drivers in all types of vehicles (mainly low-end), which otherwise would only be available in premium vehicles high-end. On the other hand, it generates a history of the driver behavior that may be useful to the driver himself or to insurance, logistics or other companies in order to mitigate potential risks and reduce operational costs. The group is looking for companies from the Transport, Insurance or Apps sector to sign technical collaboration agreements, commercial agreements with technical assistance and license agreements.

The group has developed an ultrasonic system, with a friendly configuration, calibration and deployment, which can be intended to cover extensive indoor spaces. The system works in a GPS-like mode. It uses active beacons and is privacy-oriented, without any node limits being located at the same time. The algorithms used allow to deal with noise problems, multipath propagation and near-far effectswhat gives the system a centimeter precision. The group is looking for companies working in automation, computer or telecommunication sectors to achieve technical collaboration agreements.

The group has developed a method and a sensor system for the detection and counting of the train’s axles. This sensor may be used to verify the integrity and speed of the railway convoys. This method and sensor system is characterized by its high auscultation speed. With this solution the measurements are made without physical contact with any element of the train, it has total immunity to electromagnetic interference (absence of electronics in the pathway) and to the sensor vibration. The group seeks railway related companies to achieve licensing agreements with technical collaborations and commercial agreements.

In particular, the device allows obtaining maps of long range displacement (greater than mm) in dynamic regime (in real time). Thus this system is very useful in the experimental study of the materials’ mechanical properties, especially if they suffer large deformations at high speed. It is a computationally simpler alternative and more inexpensive than the digital mapping technique for 3D images which is currently the only one allowing such measures. The group seeks licensing agreements, collaborative and commercial agreements with technical assistance.

UNIVERSIDAD DE ALICANTE posted this:Autonomous vehicles for transport of materials in warehousesBased on current SLAM techniques, researchers have developed new algorithms with important improvements in the map creation, association and location processes. In this way, the vehicle reaches a better adaptation to the space and organization of the warehouse. In other words, the vehicle can be adapted to the place and it is not necessary to adapt the place to the vehicle. The main innovative aspects are: • The vehicles have a high level of autonomy, due to the dynamic planning of paths. • Avoid collisions because the system can modify the path in real time. • The definition of new paths without modification of the environment avoids costly investments.
