Laser Consult Ltd. posted this:Multifunctional Syringe (Protected Healthcare Workers)This is a medical device, is a syringe, which solves the problem of the danger of infecting patients and health care workers with diseases that can be transmitted by injecting with an already used needle. With this new syringe model, you can apply the drug enormously quickly while protecting yourself. It is intended for a single use with only one use practically possible. The dosage is much easier because it has two measuring scales. The volume is 15ml but can be changed as needed is it can be produced in different sizes. The disinfection mechanism is in the syringe, and one of the novelties is that the needle has no contact with the healthcare worker applying the therapy.
Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya - UPC posted this:High resolution non-contact measurement of biophysical parametersA prototype of a novel laser-based displacement sensor enabling subnanometric resolution measurements of biophysical parameters has been developed. The system is in addition extremely compact (few cm3), robust and non-contact. Partners to further develop the current prototype, to pursue novel applications, and/or to establish commercial agreements along with technical cooperation are sought.

Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas posted this:Biocompatible self-generating cell stimulatorCSIC through the Instituto de Microelectrónica de Barcelona - Centro Nacional de Microelectrónica, has developed a device based on nanogenerators for electrical cells stimulation without the need of electrodes or bulky devices. The device is biocompatible and, among its multiple applications, is able to actuate in medical prostheses as enhancer of cellular growth and proliferation, which permits an early lesion recovery (such as a fracture or wound). Industrial partners dedicated to the development of medical devices for cells stimulation, in particular, focused onto therapeutic treatments of non-healing wounds, are being sought to collaborate through a patent licence agreement. An offer for Patent Licensing
Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas posted this:Power Switch for high radiation EnvironmentsCSIC through the Instituto de Microelectrónica de Barcelona - Centro Nacional de Microelectrónica, has developed a novel JFET (Junction Field-Effect Transistor) which is very suitable to be used in high-radiation-level environments such as Space, high-flying aircraft, particles accelerator or radio-medical equipment. Due to its particular configuration, the device presents very high radiation hardness. Industrial partners from the electronic industry focused on radiation detection are being sought to collaborate through a patent license agreement.

The model assesses the performance of a trainee registrar before, during, and after training using the ultrasound imaging phantom which is a realistic representation of the breast.
DIT Hothouse posted this:Cervassist: Cervical Cancer AnalyserCurrently, cytologists are needed to examine smear samples under a microscope to visually assess the shape, size and stain pattern and determine if abnormal cells are present which could indicate cervical cancer. Alternatively, automated image analysis is used to determine nuclear density but cytologists are still needed to determine the presence of abnormal cells. The current processes are prone to human error and misdiagnosis can be up to 60%. They are also time consuming and costly.Sample user interface for spectral acquisition and classification. Researchers at DIT have invented an easy to use, low cost, automated analyser that uses a pre-defined library of known cell signatures and a proprietary classification algorithm to detect abnormal cells with an accuracy of 99%. The analyser can be used with a regular microscope, an image analyser or as a point-of-care system with results displayed using an intuitive user interface. The image and the classification can be saved in digital format, stored in a national database, and sent to the medical team or experts worldwide

As a main feature, the method presents high robustness against noise and it is very robust against variability of heart rate due to standardization techniques used. Moreover, it includes a procedure to separate the repolarization information from artifacts. Because of these characteristics, it is particularly suitable for implementation in portable monitoring devices and implantable devices. The group is looking for companies of Medical equipment and health technology to reach licensing agreements or collaboration and commercial agreements for technical assistance.

Given a new case, automated tools will enable the extraction of a previous case of the patient, based on which the current case can be analyzed more in context, and the abnormalities can be more accurately detected, segmented and measured. IOPs, when injected into the infarcted myocardium, lead to improved heart function after MI. IOPs activate anti-inflammatory macrophages and thus promote tissue healing and repair and prevent myocardial remodeling and dysfunction. Potential Applications IOPs can be used to treat AMI and other inflammatory conditions associated with pro-inflammatory activated macrophages and to promote tissue healing and repair. Advantages ? IOPs are nontoxic ? IOPs are FDA approved for use in humans for MRI imaging Stage In vivo studies in mouse and rat models of MI and heart failure Project ID : 10-2011-247
