Summary of the technology
We analyze breast cancer in mammographies, ultrasonographies, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and thermographies. Our analysis includes mass/normal breast tissue classification, benign/malignant tumor classification in mammograms and ultrasound images, tumor detection in thermograms, mammogram registration and analysis of the evolution of breast tumors. We also quantify and visualize the evolution of breast tumors in patients undergoing medical treatment.
While the previous works mainly focus on analyzing one type of breast images, we implement a robust CAD system for detecting, classifying and studying the evolution of breast cancer. This CAD system analyzes breast cancer in several types of medical images. To implement our CAD system, we use computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning methods. We also need to collect a large scale breast cancer dataset from hospitals. This dataset should include mammograms, ultrasound, thermograms and MRI images for the same patients. Our CAD gives accurate diagnosis results because it gathers information from different sources.
Description of the technology
We implemented a robust prototype for computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system for detecting, classifying and studying the evolution of breast cancer. This CAD system analyzes breast cancer in different types of medical images, such as mammograms, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging and infrared images. We also integrate the findings of each type of images for the same patients to improve the diagnosis results. Our CAD system can be used in hospitals and medical centers for early detection of breast cancer and to analyze the changes of breast tumors during medical treatments.
The CAD system analyzes breast cancer in different modalities (mammograms, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging). It then integrates the findings of each modality of the same patients in order to reduce the number of false positives and improve the overall diagnosis results.
Main advantages of its use
- The mortality rate can be reduced and the cost of unnecessary biopsies can be saved.
- Our CAD system can be used in hospitals and medical centers in order to early detect breast cancer and analyze the changes of breast tumors during medical treatments.
