Detailed Description

CellSpace HA™: The Drop-in 3D Bioactive Scaffold for High-Yield, Cost-Effective Cell Manufacturing

The biomanufacturing industry faces critical inefficiencies that slow down production and increase costs. Traditional 2D cell culture systems and non-bioactive microcarriers suffer from 95% medium waste due to poor nutrient utilization, 6–12 months per scale-up with high failure rates, and inconsistent results due to shear stress and poor oxygen transfer. These challenges lead to low yields, high costs, and slow time-to-market for therapies, vaccines, and biopharmaceuticals.

OCTOCELLS’ CellSpace HA™ is a proprietary 3D bioactive hyaluronic acid (HA) scaffold that mimics the natural extracellular matrix, enabling unprecedented efficiency and scalability in cell manufacturing. Our solution is validated by leading institutions.

CellSpace HA™ delivers 12 times higher mAb yield compared to 2D cultures, as independently validated by CHU Rouen. It also reduces costs per unit by 80% and nutrient waste by 83%, making it both cost-effective and sustainable. The same protocol can be used from T25 flask to 5,000L bioreactor, eliminating scale-up failures and ensuring seamless scalability. Additionally, CellSpace HA™ is compatible with any adherent or suspension cell type, including mAbs, EVs, viral vectors, and cell therapies.

Unlike conventional microcarriers, CellSpace HA™ combines a bioactive HA structure, industrial scalability, and multi-modal applicability across six or more verticals. It is a capital-light solution that requires no additional equipment, making it a drop-in solution for existing workflows.

Our technology is already commercially available at lab scale, with HA Microcarriers in pilot scale and set for an industrial launch in the second half of 2026. We offer flexible purchasing options, including Starter Kits for lab testing, Pilot Programs for scale-up validation, and Bulk Orders for industrial production, with volume discounts available for recurring orders.

About OctoCells

OctoCells develops CellSpace HA™, a proprietary 3D bioactive hyaluronic acid matrix that turns standard culture vessels into ready-to-use bioproduction microfactories , no new equipment, no protocol change, same incubator.
Unlike inert microcarriers (dextran, polystyrene) that require collagen or Matrigel coating, CellSpace HA is intrinsically bioactive: cells recognize and colonize it natively, in a true 3D volume rather than a flat 2D surface. The matrix supports a broad range of cell types, including non-adherent cells, and applications spanning monoclonal antibodies, extracellular vesicles, lentiviral vectors, recombinant proteins, and physiologically relevant 3D disease models.
Results independently validated with Rouen University Hospital, CNRS and INSERM: ≥12× monoclonal antibody yield vs. standard 2D culture, +54% extracellular vesicle production, −80% cost per unit produced (vessel + medium + labor), and active cultures maintained beyond 29 days versus a typical plateau at day 18 in 2D. The technology is protected by 3 patents filed plus 1 in the pipeline, and has been validated in partnership with Dassault Systèmes on OctoSim™, an AI-powered digital twin for bioproduction.
OctoCells is a French deeptech biotech based in Rouen, currently engaging with CDMOs, biopharma manufacturers, and academic/clinical partners to scale adoption of CellSpace HA across bioproduction and 3D modeling applications.
We are actively seeking industrial partners, co-development opportunities, and technology providers (e.g., animal-free growth factors, specialty proteins) to complement our platform and accelerate deployment across new modalities and markets.
