Features of the syringe:
A trigger mechanism, designed to use magnetic energy, moves a piston inside the cartridge to inject and withdraw, eliminating plunger mechanism and creating a fully preserved system.
All dosages come in a completely sealed cartridge that is placed into a trigger mechanism (injector). All dosages now have an increased shelf life limited only by the stability of the drug that could be estimated (in the ideal conditions) in years, if not decades. This device is a combination of the syringe and a storage vessel at the same time. Reduced cost and storage space and simplified shipping and logistics achieved through eliminating of vials and ampoules and modification of the syringe filling and assembly process. Also larger batches of medication could be produced. The syringe features combine: pre-filled syringes, usage of empty and filled cartridges due to the piston movement in both direction; long drug shelf life cartridges, simplification of the drug manufacturing process, less packaging, shipping, handling, storage and logistics. Also it could be used for liquid, powder and gas chemicals. This syringe would increase safety and decrease medical waste dramatically moving injection closer to the green approach.
Versatility:
• Small, compact, inexpensive and easy to store and use design and construction;
• The trigger mechanism (injector) and the cartridge are light weight and can be used for liquid, gas and powder drugs and chemicals;
• Works in both directions and, therefore, capable of incretion and extraction of drugs, chemicals, body fluids and samples of air, gases, chemicals and the bacteriological substances;
• Product will standardize industry even more reducing the unnecessary varieties of syringes and cutting the cost of injection even further. It will reduce waste.
• Increased safety due to reduction in possible human errors in dosages. Also due to usage vacuum and Nitrogen there would be no air bubble.
Ways it will benefit the healthcare industry:
• Magnetic syringe saves money due to the less expensive manufacturing, usage, cost of logistics, storage, disposal and transportation;
• Syringes will be pre-filled which would save critical time, assures accuracy and total compliance of medication (decreases human error and protects environment).
• Magnetic syringe’s weight and size would contribute dramatically to the life-saving medical service. It decreases medical waste because it has no plunger and uses less packaging.
Dual function of the completely sealed cartridges is that they can be used for collection of samples in cases of chemical and biological incidents
Description of the technology
The Magnetic Plungerless Injection System is a hand-held apparatus with a magnetically driven piston capable of displacing, moving and transferring liquid or gas through a cartridge chamber and into a sterile needle for injections. The device can also be used to extract liquid or gas substances. This apparatus works on the principle that a magnetic field penetrates glass and plastic. A magnet located on the outside of the cartridge wall and a ferrous piston on the inside will create a strong coupling with the piston repeating the movements of the magnet. Movement of the piston in one direction will create insertion of liquid and gas substances and movement in the other direction will create an extraction. This device incorporates storage for solid, gas and liquid substances and an injection system for gasses and liquids.
Specifications
Product Development Pipeline • Retractable Needle Cartridge – Every time a health care worker gets a needle-stick, they must immediately document the incident and begin a regular testing program to determine if a virus was contracted via the needle-stick. This can range from a few months of testing for hepatitis, to several years of testing for the HIV virus and cost about $1.2 billion a year. Another $1.8 billion is spent annually to treat workers who have actually contracted viruses from needle-sticks. Thus, the healthcare industry is spending a total of $3 billion (only in the USA) on needle-stick accidents. Based on this, safety needles could be financially justifiable at twice the cost of standard needle syringes. The medical industry is seeking ways to prevent needle-sticks, despite the higher costs for safer medical supplies. This is demonstrated in the intravenous (I.V.) market, where health organizations are paying three times the traditional costs of needle injections by using a needleless I.V. interface. This issue could be well improved if not solved completely with our technology. • Multi Chamber Cartridge – There is a number of parenteral drugs that have to be mixed just before injection. Presently a pharmaceutical professional does this for the end user in a medical setting. If cartridge had multiple chambers filled with pre-measured chemical components of the drug, opening of these chambers would allow components to mix creating a drug ready for injection. This would eliminate the need for the end user to involve a medical or pharmaceutical professional for each injection. • Guaranteed One Time Use Syringe - The need for a one-time use syringe originates with safety, storage and disposal requirements. Reusable syringes or a syringe recovered from disposal and used again may inflict and are inflicting great damages to society by spreading the diseases they were employed to control. If a syringe disables itself after the original use, it could prevent these kinds of epidemic healthcare problems. • Second Generation Actuator – Our second-generation actuator would incorporate all of the modifications required by the retractable needle, including rotation of the magnet around the axis as well as moving the magnet along the same axis.
