Summary of the technology

The iGuess® platform framework has been developed since 12 years with different stakeholders at city and regional level and different applications in mind. The entire platform with all components is developed and owned by LIST. An enormous amount of knowledge in interoperable GIS based web platforms for a diversity of applications is contained at LIST level and can also be transferred.

The increasing demand for sustainable energy solutions and the urgent need to combat climate change have made renewable energy a crucial aspect of urban development. Cities must transition to renewable energy sources and integrate them into their energy systems. However, the process of planning and implementing renewable energy projects in urban areas can be complex and challenging. It requires holistic and sustainable approaches which can only be delivered by in- depth/deep technologies, such as interoperable web- and cloud-based platforms, integrating a diversity of data and IoT sources, simulation and forecasting tools, as well as complex 3D-4D visualisation tools, in order to develop and implement decarbonisation strategies across the globe for cities, regions and nations.

Details of the Technology Offer

iGuess4SECAP is a comprehensive web platform tailored to accelerate the energy transitions for entire cities or regions. The platform provides web-based applications that are accessible to city planners, energy developers, and other stakeholders who are involved in the planning and implementation of renewable energy projects. The platform features a variety of tools and functionalities that allows users to simulate, analyse and visualize information related to renewable energy planning, such as solar production, energy consumption etc.


It enables public administrations, project developers, service providers and investors to assess potentials and pathways for decarbonisation based on renewable energy production and efficiency analysis for entire cities, regions, and nations. iGuess4SECAP simulates energy transition scenarios for renewable potentials, e.g. to configure and analyse the potentials of distributed energy production to support Sustainable Energy and Climate Action plans and decarbonisation strategies.


iGuess4SECAP relies on the web-based iGuess® framework, which provides easy-to-use tools for non-technical users to simulate and assess renewable energy potentials at high resolution for cities, regions and nations. The goal of iGuess4SECAP is to provide easy-to-use powerful, complex geospatial simulations tools to provide evidence-based decision support. iGuess4SECAP integrates through its interoperability a diversity of geospatial data and sensor sources, simulation and analysis tools, as well as 3D and 4D visualisation capabilities, ranging from the neighbourhood scale to city, regional and nationwide scales.

iGuess4SECAP combines data portals and IoT services with high resolution simulation algorithms and visualisation capabilities to push into the market with a generic and holistic cloud-based platform approach (SaaS). Its interoperability, semantic data models and modular cloud-based services enable iGuess4SECAP to address a diversity of future market needs aiming at a sustainable growth of business. Fully built on Open Geospatial Consortium standards (OGC) and OASC’s minimal interoperability mechanisms (MIMs). Algorithms and tools are delivering high resolution assessments, e.g. 0.5m resolution for entire cities. Built on the generic iGuess® framework, it can easily combine data, simulation and analysis tools.
