Details of the Technology Offer

Weed control is an important aspect of agriculture and landscaping, and herbicides are primary agents in weed management. Airable Research Lab has generated broad-spectrum herbicidal solutions for weed and cover-crop termination using naturally derived, renewable components. As the current herbicide market is expected to grow from the current $40 billion to $50 billion by 2027, the expansion of this marketplace offers numerous opportunities.

THE TECHNOLOGY

Airable has demonstrated a bio-based herbicide that is effective at “burn-down” of the most common grasses and weeds that are problematic for both farmers and homeowners. The product is a foliar-applied, biodegradable spray comprising naturally derived actives and soy-based adjuvants and emulsifiers. All the components are biodegradable by bacteria that occur naturally in dirt and therefore will not bioaccumulate in soils and waterways. In addition, the Airable product is a drop-in replacement for common herbicides, requiring no adjustments to existing farm and home equipment.

BENEFITS

  • Bio-based products derived from 80%–100% renewable resources
  • Rapid defoliation of grasses and broadleaf weeds
  • Drop-in replacements for commercial herbicides used in existing farm and home equipment
  • Potential use in organic farming, large agricultural plots, and home applications
  • Projected global herbicide market of $50 billion by 2027
