In particular, we are seeking materials that can provide increased functionality in a few key areas: 1. Circular economy/Sustainability • With increased scrutiny on single-use packaging, PepsiCo is interested in new materials and technology that enable packaging to be reused at end of life, preferable again as packaging for the same product. • For some materials that are not readily reusable or recyclable, degradation is the preferred end-of-life. As such, PepsiCo is interested in packaging with unique pre- & post-consumer functionality, such as edible, dissolvable, or compostable films. 2. Functionality • E-Commerce: With the rise of the internet economy and increased consumer demand for online shipping, PepsiCo is interested in materials technologies that deliver new and different functionalities (e.g. protection, authentication of freshness) to the primary and secondary packaging used for e-commerce. Please note: all proposed technologies must have advanced beyond the conceptual stage.

PepsiCo posted this Technology CallSeeking next generation pallet boardsPepsiCo seeks innovative suppliers for pallet boards suitable for use in its production and warehousing efforts. PepsiCo currently uses pallet boards made of Oriented Strand Boards (OSB) when warehousing products and goods in its facilities. Many of these pallets are currently made of 7/8” thick 9-11 ply fir or hardwood CC grade veneer core plywood and, while widely used in multiple PepsiCo production facilities, are susceptible to damage from other equipment including chains, brackets and forklifts (see images attached for examples of damaged pallet boards). At present, a single pallet board has an average functional life span of 3-6 months. To improve operations and reduce waste from damaged pallet boards, PepsiCo is interested in a composite pallet board. While the board can still be OSB, composite boards with other materials (such as plastics or aluminum, could be added for increased strength and resiliency) are of primary interest as long as there is no negative impact on recyclability. While PepsiCo is primarily interested in pallet board technologies that are commercially available, earlier stage technologies are of interest, provided viable development pathways exist.

The coating could be water based, solvent based or solvent-free. Current collection: Suitable materials for current collection from the photovoltaic coating. Solution on the position of the electrodes relative to the photovoltaic coating as well as the geometry of the electrodes is of interest. Important criteria's for selection of the proper material includes • The catalytic durability of the material. • The photovoltaic paint as well as the current collectors should be easy to apply on site • The durability when exposed to the environment. • The chosen technology should not contain substances of concern and is a candidate for passing REACH and other equivalent regulations.
