Seeking novel materials and technologies to deliver new and improved performance to packaging.PepsiCo seeks to identify materials and technologies that can deliver new and improved performance to their packaging. In particular, we are seeking materials that can provide increased functionality in a few key areas: 1. Circular economy/Sustainability • With increased scrutiny on single-use packaging, PepsiCo is interested in new materials and technology that enable packaging to be reused at end of life, preferable again as packaging for the same product. • For some materials that are not readily reusable or recyclable, degradation is the preferred end-of-life. As such, PepsiCo is interested in packaging with unique pre- & post-consumer functionality, such as edible, dissolvable, or compostable films. 2. Functionality • E-Commerce: With the rise of the internet economy and increased consumer demand for online shipping, PepsiCo is interested in materials technologies that deliver new and different functionalities (e.g. protection, authentication of freshness) to the primary and secondary packaging used for e-commerce. Please note: all proposed technologies must have advanced beyond the conceptual stage.

Seeking novel bottle and/or bottle closure sanitation methods that reduce or eliminate the use of chemicals and/or water in the sanitation processPepsiCo is seeking novel bottle and/or bottle closure sanitation methods that reduce or eliminate the use of chemicals and/or water in the sanitation process. It is very important to sanitize packaging containing beverages intended for human consumption. Failure to adequately sanitize bottles and bottle closures to remove bacteria, viruses, molds, yeasts, and spores may have serious consequences with respect to product quality and safety, potentially leading to negative customer reactions or even product recall. Peracetic acid (PAA) is a commonly employed and highly effective sanitizer, particularly when used in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide. However, PAA sanitation processes involve a significant amount of water throughout the process including dilution, water rinsing of packaging post-treatment and chemical disposal. Globally, trillions of gallons of beverages are bottled each year. While preserved carbonated soft drinks (CSDs) are the traditional leader in market share, other drinks such as bottled water, juices, non-preserved CSDs, and ready-to-drink teas and coffees are gaining in share. New inventions are needed to ensure that these drinks remain safe, while reducing unnecessary chemical and/or water consumption during production. Proposed solutions should achieve the following objectives: •Reduce or eliminate the amount of water used in bottle and/or bottle closure sanitation processes; and/or •Reduce or eliminate the use of chemicals in bottle and/or bottle closure sanitation processes.

Seeking partners for development of Photovoltaic paint.We are seeking partners that can contribute to the development of a Photovoltaic coating. A partner should be able to contribute within at least one of the following areas: Photovoltaic coating: A coating that has photovoltaic properties and that allows the extraction of the resulting electrons. The coating might contain perovskite particles or other photocatalytic particles. The binder should be able to disperse the photocatalytic particles and should allow the extraction of the generated electricity while providing good film forming properties. The coating could be water based, solvent based or solvent-free. Current collection: Suitable materials for current collection from the photovoltaic coating. Solution on the position of the electrodes relative to the photovoltaic coating as well as the geometry of the electrodes is of interest. Important criteria's for selection of the proper material includes • The catalytic durability of the material. • The photovoltaic paint as well as the current collectors should be easy to apply on site • The durability when exposed to the environment. • The chosen technology should not contain substances of concern and is a candidate for passing REACH and other equivalent regulations.
