Seeking novel materials and technologies to deliver new and improved performance to packaging.PepsiCo seeks to identify materials and technologies that can deliver new and improved performance to their packaging. In particular, we are seeking materials that can provide increased functionality in a few key areas: 1. Circular economy/Sustainability • With increased scrutiny on single-use packaging, PepsiCo is interested in new materials and technology that enable packaging to be reused at end of life, preferable again as packaging for the same product. • For some materials that are not readily reusable or recyclable, degradation is the preferred end-of-life. As such, PepsiCo is interested in packaging with unique pre- & post-consumer functionality, such as edible, dissolvable, or compostable films. 2. Functionality • E-Commerce: With the rise of the internet economy and increased consumer demand for online shipping, PepsiCo is interested in materials technologies that deliver new and different functionalities (e.g. protection, authentication of freshness) to the primary and secondary packaging used for e-commerce. Please note: all proposed technologies must have advanced beyond the conceptual stage.

Seeking to use structural color or photonic principles to block wavelengths of light based.We are looking for technological solutions which can be applied to block specific ranges of light, Tunable from UV to NIR using structural color or photonic principles. The outcome should be a material which can be scaled up and functions at scale, ideally in a flexible or liquid environment. Classical pigments, small molecules and non-specific scattering are out of scope.
