Antiviral agents for amantadine-resistant influenza A
Knowhow and Research output
We discovered four compounds that inhibit the infectivity of an amantadine-resistant strain of the influenza A virus. The compounds came out in in silico screening for binders of the M2 proton channel of the virus and it is therefore reasonable to assume that their mode of operation is based on blocking this channel, which is also the target of amantadine. Ultimately, these compounds could lead to discovery of new anti-flu drugs. They could be complementary to the Tamiflu drug, targeting the neuraminidase envelop protein of the virus, which is the commonly used treatment for flu.
