Novel rotary system based on 12 articulated arms with controlled variable radial extension and retraction. The mechanism combines asymmetric mass distribution, two-stage articulated arms, mechanical stops and localized passive magnetic assistance. The variable geometry is designed to modify the effective lever arm throughout the rotation cycle and enable controlled momentum transfer. The concept is being developed for numerical analysis, prototype testing and potential industrial applications.
The technology is a variable-geometry rotary mechanism based on a rotor equipped with 12 articulated arms distributed at 30° intervals.
Each arm incorporates two articulated sections that allow its effective radial position to change during rotation. The two-stage configuration is designed to substantially increase the effective lever arm during the deployment phase while allowing progressive retraction during the return sector.
During the descending sector, the articulated arms progressively deploy outward and interact with mechanical stops that define their working position. During the ascending sector, the arms progressively retract toward the rotor, modifying the radial distribution of the moving masses.
The mechanism incorporates localized passive magnetic elements. Magnetic repulsion can assist the deployment of the articulated arms, while additional magnetic configurations may be positioned near selected mechanical interaction points to influence the dynamic response of the mechanism.
The architecture combines articulated kinematics, variable radial geometry, controlled mass distribution, mechanical stops and localized magnetic interaction in a single rotary system.
The technology is currently under engineering development, including analytical modelling, numerical dynamic analysis and prototype validation. The system provides a platform for investigating novel variable-geometry rotary mechanisms and controlled momentum transfer.
Potential applications include advanced rotary machinery, mechanical energy recovery systems, flywheel and momentum-management mechanisms, experimental mechanical systems and other industrial applications involving controlled radial mass displacement.
