The present invention consists in a complete Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) system designed to evaluate and summarize the quality of dynamic indoor environments. The system uses a variety of high-precision sensors to collect environmental data, which is subsequently processed by a set of proprietary algorithms. The information is presented on a specially designed online visualization platform, enabling different stakeholders—technicians, building management entities, and end users—to easily interpret the data. The invention as a whole is a comprehensive system that efficiently gathers, analyzes, and presents relevant indoor environmental data.
Background:
Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) monitoring systems are essential instruments for evaluating and preserving the general quality of indoor environments. These systems focus on a number of factors, including thermal comfort, acoustic comfort, visual comfort, and indoor air quality. IEQ monitoring is essential in a variety of applications such as residential buildings, workplaces, schools, and hospitals. In practice they are used to ensure health and safety, enhance occupant comfort, and improve energy efficiency.
Benefits:
This technology provides full IEQ monitoring in a single device, unlike commercial solutions that typically separate it in multiple devices. Developed specifically for this application, the monitoring system uses low-cost yet high-precision sensors, with custom-designed electronic components, architecture, and PCB. Specialized algorithms that derive from scientific assessments of several case studies generate indexes that facilitate indoor environment interpretation. The information displayed by the data visualization platform is tailored to the specific role of the user, be it an end user, building management entity, or technician.
Potential comercial use/applications:
This technology will result in a product designed to monitor the indoor environmental quality of spaces. However, it is intended to be sold as a service, as it includes a data visualization platform that can be customized with specific indexes, thresholds, and alerts.
