Summary of the technology

This technology is a structure-guided vapochromic sensing platform that transforms invisible hazardous gas exposure into immediate and intuitive visual cues.
By controlling molecular architectures and solid-state packing, the material exhibits tunable, selective, and reversible color changes in response to specific organic vapors.
Unlike conventional gas sensors that rely on numerical readouts or personal alarms, the platform enables spatially shared and perception-first safety awareness.
It supports early hazard warning, reduced false positives, and scalable deployment as coatings or films in real-world environments.

Details of the Technology Offer

Gas safety failures in industrial and laboratory environments often arise not from insufficient detection sensitivity, but from poor human risk perception.
Conventional gas sensors provide numerical concentration values or personal alarms that require interpretation, are user-dependent, and lack spatial awareness, leading to delayed or inconsistent safety behavior.
This technology introduces a structure-guided vapochromic platform in which molecular architectures are precisely engineered to control intermolecular interactions, void size, and packing geometry in the solid state. Positional isomerism and steric design enable distinct vapochromic responses—ranging from broad sensitivity to condition-specific or target-selective recognition—toward volatile organic compounds such as DCM, toluene, THF, ether, acetonitrile, and acetone.
Upon gas exposure, the material undergoes a reversible color change that is directly visible to the human eye, allowing immediate and shared risk perception without numerical interpretation. Different material variants support early warning, threshold-based alerts, and selective VOC recognition, reducing false positives while maintaining high sensitivity.
The platform is compatible with scalable deployment as wall coatings, panels, films, or enclosures, enabling area-level visualization of gas leakage. Commercialization opportunities include IP licensing and application-specific co-development with safety coating manufacturers, industrial material suppliers, and environmental sensing solution providers for chemical facilities, laboratories, and industrial plants.
