Desired outcome

Many industrial products use a continuous Z-folded web. We are interested in a process that can create the Z-folded web AND insert products into one side of this web.

Product images:
1) The product form will be placed into a wrapper, a sleeve, or a box (TBD)
2) Final product form. Number of "Happy" squares could range between 5 and 30 pieces
3) Final product shown with Z-folded web expanded for clarity

Details of the Innovation Need

Description of the Need:

Identify methods, industry examples, or companies that are capable of producing a Z-folded web with products sandwiched into one side.

We are looking for:

Partner(s) with proven solution or willingness to develop a solution for the need. The following are specific design details/requirements:

  • Continuous web to be folded into “Z” shape
  • Square product
  • Product inserted into only one side of the Z-fold

  • Concepts that will take more than six months to prototype
  • Concepts that do not have the ability to scale up
  • Concepts that cannot be practiced in all regions of the globe
  • Materials or designs that are not able to operate in high speed manufacturing environments
