Master of Veterinary Science (by research)

The University of Melbourne

January 2012 - January 2014

Veterinary virology

The thesis of this master was about the molecular biology of the infectious bronchitis virus, the avian coronavirus. It was focused on the recombination aspects of the virus and included the sequence for the first time of the complete genome of an Australian avian coronavirus (6 strains were fully sequenced during this project).

Doctor of Philosophy

The University of Melbourne

January 2015 - January 2020

Veterinary virology

The thesis was focused on molecular aspects and also the pathogenesis of the infectious bronchitis virus (IBV). The research work included studies about optimisation of the replication of IBV in cell culture systems and the expansion of the library of complete-genome sequences of IBV in Australia (12 additional strains). It also included an in vivo experiment where the pathogenesis of 6 strains of IBV was characterised, giving fundamental information about its main replication sites and transmissibility.
