New tannin-rich extract from vegetal sources for tanning hides and skins
The A3 Chair in Leather Innovation developed an innovative aqueous extraction procedure to obtain a tannin-rich extract from seed grapes. The new extract contains a mixture of tannins and non-tannins which confers an improved antioxidant and light fastness properties. The extract also contains a colouring agent similar to that obtained with the Chestnut Tree extract. The main characteristic is the capacity to precipitate proteins and make them resistant to decomposition, for which reason the extract is useful as tanning agent for hides and skins.
Technologies for the improvement of the mobility of people with motor affectation
The research group "Multisensorial analysis and recognition" from Alcalá University has developed different technologies: a walker, a wheelchair for children of early age, a multisensory cabin and a spoon, to improve the lifes of people with certain motor affections. These inventions are part of the "Padrino Tecnológico Program", which has been designed by the research group itself, to raise funds for the development and adaptation of technical aids that cover the needs detected in people with low personal autonomy. Eco-friendly firelighters, exclusively composed by natural and recycled materials, based on forest waste and bee wax. The firelighter resulting from this mixture is, itself, involved in a vegetal fiber-based paper, which can be detachable and individually used. The product aims the promotion of a better environmental sustainability and a closer relationship with the forest.

Device for passive supression of vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) in structures
The present invention relates to a device for suppression of Vortex-induced vibrations (known as VIV) in flexible structures or in elastically supported rigid structures. Vortex-induced vibrations are a type of fluid-structure interactions that are consequence of the unsteady periodic forces generated in the wake of bluff bodies when affected by currents. The forces induced on the structures as a result of the large region of separated flow in the wake of the structure, result in vibrations. Vibrations can be fatal in engineering applications. Structures with low mass and damping are the ones in which VIV can be more important. In marine applications, most of the structures are characterised by combined low mass-damping. Although VIV is crucial in marine applications, the invention described here could also be used to prevent VIV in other non-marine scenarios such as structures affected by winds.
Adipic acid(s) prepared by catalytic carboxylation of 1,3-butadiene
Adipic acid is mainly used industrially in the production of nylon 6,6. The offered technology consists in a nickel catalyzed process of carboxylation of butadiene. The developed process allows preparing adipic acid from carbon dioxide and 1,3-butadiene through a cost effective and competitive process. Industrial partners are sought for process optimization and/or industrialization.
