Here at SHV Energy, our objective is for all our LPG cylinders assets to be monitored and managed on systems that remove or reduce the manual processes. New digital systems are available but there are challenges with implementing complex and costly systems on individual systems. The scale of the task is considerable, with over 40 million individual cylinder assets under management. It highlights the importance to stablish a cost-competitive solution with the ability to scale-up it to this level and apply to the different stages in our value chain. The challenges are shown below.

PepsiCo is interested in understanding if a no added sugar, no added fat coating syrup and binder syrup can be developed. Sugar alcohols and allulose are not allowed for this project. Organoleptic properties should be as close to control samples as possible (recipe provided) and should be scale-up feasible.
Seeking moisture barrier for paper substrate - Flexible Packaging
We have been working on paper base structures as a potential option for our flexible food packaging to help with our sustainability goals of having 100% RCB compliance for our packages by 2030. While flexible package is a very sustainable option from a material use point of view, the multi-layer multi-material structures are not conducive for recycling and mostly end up in the landfill or as litter. Paper helps us with the end of life issues and can be recyclable, biodegradable and compostable. Maintaining packaging performance such as shelf stability, oxygen and moisture barrier are a must on this project. Oxygen barrier is not a problem with current technologies available but achieving the very high moisture barrier required for packaging dry foods has been a challenge. We understand that new technologies will be needed to achieve the high moisture barrier requirements (< 0.3 g/m2/day under Tropical conditions). Also, it is important to maintain this barrier under forming conditions in the VFFS process of bag-making. We are looking for novel solutions that can be added to the paper, if possible, as a high functional coating applied through flexographic or rotogravure process and/or a skin layer with high functionality that can anchor metal (metallization). The functional layer/coating must be compliant with paper recycling process and biodegradable/compostable.
Technologies for the improvement of the mobility of people with motor affectation
The research group "Multisensorial analysis and recognition" from Alcalá University has developed different technologies: a walker, a wheelchair for children of early age, a multisensory cabin and a spoon, to improve the lifes of people with certain motor affections. These inventions are part of the "Padrino Tecnológico Program", which has been designed by the research group itself, to raise funds for the development and adaptation of technical aids that cover the needs detected in people with low personal autonomy. The group seeks collaboration agreements with institutions or companies that want to be part of the "Padrino Tecnológico Program”: http://padrinotecnolognolog.org/proyectos/instituciones/ The group also want to reach license, collaboration, manufacturing or commercial agreements with technical assistance with orthopedic companies, medical equipment, and health technologies.
Advanced organic compounds with enhanced thermal energy storage capacity
Production of ionic liquids, bisimidazolium salts obtained from glycerol and carboxylic acids, which show a high thermal energy storage (TES) capacity. Multi-application technology based on new phase change materials (PCM) with higher thermal properties than those used nowadays. These compounds are bisimidazolium salts, which may be obtained from affordable natural sources - fats and oils, usually by-products at the agro-food industry - through a patented procedure.
A Sustainable Procedure to Released Bioactive Compounds from Biomass
CSIC has developed a procedure to extract bioactive compounds from wet biomass, in example microalgae or/and seaweeds, by using a sequential methodology. The procedure is quick, selective, give high yields, maintain bioactivity and minimize the impact to the environment.
