Seeking to Reduce Contamination in Production Lines (Converting Machines) |
| |
We are seeking to reduce contamination in our production lines (converting machines). The specific machines use diverse web materials (mainly non-woven based) to produce our products. The materials come to our machines in a planetary roll form. Those rolls would be unwound and conveyed through the converting processes (combining, cutting…) to form final products. Within this process, the web materials release different sources of contamination (e.g. dust &/or fibers) causing accumulation of contamination in all places of the machine where it can settle. With the late changes of materials, we have seen a substantial increase in contamination. As a result, we need to move cleaning times from 8 hour intervals (10 minute cleaning with 2 operators) to less than 6 hour intervals (>15min cleaning with 4 people). In order to maintain operability standards and productivity, we are seeking methods to return to 8 hour cleaning intervals. |
Seeking Recyclable Closure for Paper Beverage Bottles |
| |
We are seeking technologies for a re-closable fiber-based closure for a paper beverage bottle that can be recycled in the paper stream. |
Seeking natural colors for foods and beverages |
| |
PepsiCo is evaluating different natural color ingredients and technologies to replace Yellow #5, Yellow #6, Red #40, and Blue #1 for multiple food and beverage brands in order to address consumer demand. Specific challenges are in the Red #40 (food) and Blue #1 (food & beverage) replacers. |
High-definition respiratory monitoring tool - Bainisha's Twin Chest System |
| |
Current technology Current systems for measuring/monitoring respiratory movements (such as Thorax displacement) @ medical level, rely on one single technology: Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) aka "accelerometry". The resulting data of such measurements however are very often inadequate & hard or impossible to interpret. Problem E.g. the raw IMU-data output of coughing may look exactly the same as the raw IMU-data of riding a bike on really bumpy road ! When such type of confusion arises, it is impossible to distinguish between very different events. Solution A second sensor technology is added: a very thin, ultra-stretchable, very accurate displacement sensor. This sensor is fixed to the body as a simple self-adhesive patch. The fixation is of such a high quality and "integrates" with the skin so thoroughly, that it is nick-named a "Second Skin"-sensor. Together with the on-board IMU the "Second Skin" sensor forms a Sensor Fusion System. I.e. by cross-linking the raw data of two very different sensor concepts all uncertainties, "grey"-zones and impossible to interpret situations are eliminated. The sensor-fusion concept also widens and multiplies the capabilities for capturing a multitude of different types of "body language/events" |
Methods of Catalysis for Enhanced Methanol Production from Carbon Dioxide (CO2) |
| |
Composite materials comprised of phenyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and one or more metals for catalysis of CO2 hydrogenation. |
Automatic autonomous device for water control and monitoring, and other aqueous media (based on the detection of analytes of interest) |
| |
Smart device focused on real-time water management. Applicable both drinking water and industrial and waste waters, monitored parameters include cations (Fe (III), Hg (II), Al (III), etc.), oxidants (Cl, nitrites, peroxide, etc.), biogenic amines, trinitrotoluene, pH, turbidity, conductivity, etc. This developed technology, composed by a series of sensors, small biochips, which experiment a change of colour when contacting the analyte of interest. This change is captured by a digital camera and is sent via Wifi to a database, where it is analysed and registered. It is also possible to issue a report and/or inform clients in real-time. |
