Seeking technologies to reduce GHGs in all aspects of the supply chain and manufacturing process. |
| |
PepsiCo is committed to reducing GHG emissions from seed to shelf. We are looking to engage with partners who can assist us in our goal of reducing GHG 20% by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. As new technologies emerge, efficiencies will be gained and PepsiCo aims to remain at the forefront of best practices in the food and beverage industry. PepsiCo is seeking technologies to reduce GHGs in all aspects of the supply chain and manufacturing process. Solutions may be in one or more of the following areas: • Agriculture – sustainable farming and the reduction of GHG intensive fertilizers • Manufacturing – adopting energy efficient manufacturing processes; novel methods for utilizing waste; use of renewable thermal energy at scale • Packaging – alternative packaging materials and formats that reduce GHGs • Distribution – technologies to assist in the efficiency of our company-owned and third party fleet |
Seeking to Reduce Contamination in Production Lines (Converting Machines) |
| |
We are seeking to reduce contamination in our production lines (converting machines). The specific machines use diverse web materials (mainly non-woven based) to produce our products. The materials come to our machines in a planetary roll form. Those rolls would be unwound and conveyed through the converting processes (combining, cutting…) to form final products. Within this process, the web materials release different sources of contamination (e.g. dust &/or fibers) causing accumulation of contamination in all places of the machine where it can settle. With the late changes of materials, we have seen a substantial increase in contamination. As a result, we need to move cleaning times from 8 hour intervals (10 minute cleaning with 2 operators) to less than 6 hour intervals (>15min cleaning with 4 people). In order to maintain operability standards and productivity, we are seeking methods to return to 8 hour cleaning intervals. |

Polycarbonate-Urethane Coated Universal Talus Implant |
| |
● A series of universal-geometry talus implants with different sizes have been created. ● Polycarbonate-Urethane (PCU) coatings may simulate natural cartilage on implants. ● PCU coated implants may reduce the risk of cartilage wear and bone fracture for talus implants. |
Sensor capable of detecting sulphur compounds in wines |
| |
Researchers from the University of Burgos have developed a method capable of detecting sulphur compounds, specifically mercaptans, in wines. This new methodology allows analysis to be carried out quickly and with high sensitivity. Furthermore, the proposed electrochemical method is characterized by its low cost and portability. |
New COVID-19 Screening Method |
| |
The early and efficient detection of COVID-19 cases remains an unresolved issue. The detection of cases affected by COVID-19 is based on symptoms or contact tracing. But 60% of COVID-19 cases are asymptomatic or have few and unspecific symptoms. It is therefore difficult to diagnose them as they do not consult the health system; however, they are able to transmit the virus. |
