As new technologies emerge, efficiencies will be gained and PepsiCo aims to remain at the forefront of best practices in the food and beverage industry. PepsiCo is seeking technologies to reduce GHGs in all aspects of the supply chain and manufacturing process. Solutions may be in one or more of the following areas: • Agriculture – sustainable farming and the reduction of GHG intensive fertilizers • Manufacturing – adopting energy efficient manufacturing processes; novel methods for utilizing waste; use of renewable thermal energy at scale • Packaging – alternative packaging materials and formats that reduce GHGs • Distribution – technologies to assist in the efficiency of our company-owned and third party fleet |
A dynamic thermal system for reducing energy demands in buildings |

DARWIN-PCM is a disruptive dynamic thermal system that allows building envelopes to modify their thermal properties. The invention DARWIN-PCM consists of a dynamic thermal system to be used in buildings to minimize their energy consumption for space heating and cooling. The invention can be implemented in any sort of building envelope including walls, floors, roofs, fenestrations, and doors. It is composed of several layers of materials, one of them is mobile and contains a material with capacity to absorb and release high amount of heat - such as phase- change materials (PCM). |

EnzoMeal™ - A Sustainable Food Source for Farm-Raised Fish |

An advanced soybean-based fish feed, EnzoMeal addresses a key impediment to the widespread expansion of aquaculture, the fastest-growing food production sector. Historically, fisheries have used fishmeal as fish feed, but the primary ingredients—wild fish and shrimp—are rapidly dwindling resources, making the feed expensive and unsustainable. Soybean meal presents an attractive alternative. It closely meets the dietary requirements of fish: it is rich in protein content, essential fatty acids, and unsaturated fats, and it has the most balanced amino acid composition of all agricultural-based meals. Yet conventional soybean meal contains carbohydrates that fish cannot easily digest. Airable Research Lab partnered with Battelle to develop a technology that removes nondigestible carbohydrates and increases crude proteins in the soybean meal, resolving the challenges that to date have limited soybean use as a substitute fish feed protein. |
