Universidad de Alicante posted this:Holographic sensor for detection of adulterants in essential oilsThe research group of Holography and Optical Processing of the University of Alicante has developed a holographic technique for the detection of adulterants in essential oils. This technique is able to detect different types of adulterants qualitatively. In addition, a quantitative measurement of the degree of adulteration of an essential oil can also be performed by means of pre-calibration of the sensor for a particular adulterant. The sensor could be miniaturized and manufactured at a low cost compared to traditional methods of analysis such as gas chromatography and high performance liquid chromatography. The sensor can be used by unqualified personnel.

As in the case of the heating with microwave radiation, electrical energy is transformed into thermal energy. However, on contrary of heating with microwave radiation (penetration depth of microwave radiation in absorbing media is limited) the penetration depth is virtually unlimited and the extent of heating is regulated only by the spatial uniformity of electrical conductivity throughout the reaction medium and the time spent in the ohmic reactor. Thus, the direct scaling of the ohmic heating for the pilot or industrial scale shouldn’t have the limitations presented by microwave radiation heating. It is also possible to reduce reaction times and increase the energy efficiency of chemical reactions

In this method, the following reducing agents are used apiproduct or extract of amber. The obtained nanoparticles can be applied in various industries, but the largest future is in the medical area, and as ingredient in cosmetic compositions due to the presence of non-toxic ingredients.

Substances which were extracted from these plants act both as reducer of silver and gold ions and stabilizing agent of forming silver and gold nanodispersion, preventing them from agglomeration and inhibiting their growth, so that the resulting particle size does not exceed 100 nm.

The pyridazine ring is also included in polycyclic compounds acting as MAO-B inhibitors. However, simple pyridazin-3(2H)-one derivatives have not been described so far as selective MAO-B inhibitors. The present invention provides novel pyridazin-3(2H)-one derivatives substituted at C4, C5 or C6 with several dithiocarbamate moieties that selectively inhibit the MAO-B activity and whose structure is unrelated to those currently available.

The invention aims simultaneously to overcome some of the technical difficulties in the current state of the art, such as i) little or no response in the selective collection of alveolar air fraction ii) the inability to couple systems that allow concentration/extraction of analytes of interest iii) the inexistence of systems to the storage of the collected biofluid under controlled conditions and iv) the inability to collect exhaled air in liquid or vapor state. The university is looking for companies interested in the industrial production of the equipment and its commercialization.
