Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:DriveSafe: App that monitors and scores your driving, generating alerts when it is not safe.The RobeSafe group of the Department of Electronics of the University of Alcalá has developed the application DriveSafe that monitors and evaluates the driving profiles of the drivers generating alerts in real time when they are considered to be unsafe. Placing the mobile device on the vehicle's windshield, the application uses the smartphone's sensors (accelerometers, GPS, rear camera) to get a complete assessment of the driving and create a driver profile that can be checked either on real time during the trip, or reviewed in detail once the route is over. The system requires only a slight calibration. The application has a dual functionality. On the one hand, it provides real-time Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) services, improving the safety of drivers in all types of vehicles (mainly low-end), which otherwise would only be available in premium vehicles high-end. On the other hand, it generates a history of the driver behavior that may be useful to the driver himself or to insurance, logistics or other companies in order to mitigate potential risks and reduce operational costs. The group is looking for companies from the Transport, Insurance or Apps sector to sign technical collaboration agreements, commercial agreements with technical assistance and license agreements.
Universidad de Alcalá-OTRI posted this:Risk management of the effects of solar activity: Device and procedure of obtaining in real time and high resolution, the Local Geomagnetic Disturbance at middle latitudes.The research team specialized in Space Meteorology within the Space Research Group of the University of Alcalá, has developed a device and procedure that, based on the measurement of the local geomagnetic field, is able to estimate the magnetic disturbance component associated to solar activity at middle latitudes. The determination of the magnetic disturbance component is especially relevant in cases of sporadic but explosive solar phenomena. From the perspective of the actual user, the present invention constitutes an essential element in the risk management of the effects of solar activity on vulnerable technologies, both ground-based and satellite-based (electric power, rail transport, terrestrial and positioning navigation systems, radio and satellite communication systems ...), increasing the capacities of public administrations, civil protection and emergencies and the companies themselves, in order to prepare a successful strategy for adverse conditions related to the solar activity. The group is looking for collaboration and/or commercial agreements with the Central Administration, Civil Protection, Critical Infrastructure, Electric Power companies, Rail Network, Oil pipelines companies, Gas Pipelines companies, Insurance firms, etc...

The images are captured with digital, thermal imagers, with the use of drones and robots to enter to areas with difficult access and from them, the processing that facilitates the diagnosis is carried out with a software. This tool is useful for conservation and maintenance companies of buildings, real estate corporations, insurance companies or certification to achieve collaboration and commercial agreements with technical assistance.

Universidad de Alicante posted this:Innovative procedure for the preparation of silica fillings without shrinkageThe research group Carbon Materials and Environment of the University of Alicante has developed a procedure to prepare silica fillings preventing their shrinkage by the deposition of a thin film prior to the synthesis of the filling. Modifying the said thin film, the filling properties are modified, obtaining highly satisfactory results in the case of the mesoporous thin films in all case studies. This method also allows obtaining silica fillings with different diameters and their incorporation into different types of supports such as glass, steel or honeycombing cordierite monoliths. Following this procedure the shrinkage of the fillings is avoided, which is a common occurrence with the established preparation protocols.

This model is useful for communications and positioning systems. The proposed model provides the channel response for the usual environmental phenomena. The model simulate how these phenomena affect a particular acoustic signal, and therefore, the performance of an underwater system based on acoustic signals can be evaluated previously to its deployment. The model has been tested for the case of underwater localization systems. One of its research areas is the analysis of biomedical. The algorithm obtained allows detecting in an early stage the appearance of allergic reactions during the exposure or provocation test are made in a hospital. This system is based on the measurement of the heart rate variability. With this methodology the time of exposure to the tests is reduced therefore the stress for the patient decreases.
