This boost will greatly shorten the simulation time in static Monte Carlo simulation related with Rosenbluth algorithm. With growing popularity and performance of GPU structure, this method can be applied on different platforms and operating system serve a huge benefits in simulation efficiency with the same accuracy compared with CPU calculation. The present patent break the performance bottleneck of existing molecular conformation generating methods, significantly improving the parallel performance, and has broad application prospects in the static Monte Carlo simulation of high resolution.

IMDEA Water Institute posted this:Geomatics laboratory for water resources managementIMDEA Water works on the methodological development and application of different spatial tools to support water resources management, including environmental mapping, remote sensing, the design and implementation of spatial databases and geoportals, applications for provisioning networks, and hydrological and hydrogeological modelling. New spatial information sources (LIDAR, GPS, digital terrain models, high-resolution imaging or drones) enable us to create new, high-resolution thematic mappings. Remote sensing techniques help derive biophysical vegetation variables (vegetation indices, water stress, agricultural output, crop evapotranspiration, etc.), geological mapping, soil usage, etc. Spatial databases record and order this information, forming a Hydrological Information System able to analyse the topological and quantitative relationships of different variables, the development of advanced 3D mapping and its implementation in web geoportals. Hydrogeological modelling by means of individual numerical models and/or coupled with hydrogeochemical models allows us to assess water resources in terms of their quantity and quality, and can be the basis for decision-making on the issue of water resources, both for surface water and groundwater bodies. Combining the extraction of data contained in old mappings and geo-positioning techniques with GPS allows the identification of hydraulic heritage elements for the development of decision-making support strategies.

Placing the mobile device on the vehicle's windshield, the application uses the smartphone's sensors (accelerometers, GPS, rear camera) to get a complete assessment of the driving and create a driver profile that can be checked either on real time during the trip, or reviewed in detail once the route is over. The system requires only a slight calibration. The application has a dual functionality. On the one hand, it provides real-time Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) services, improving the safety of drivers in all types of vehicles (mainly low-end), which otherwise would only be available in premium vehicles high-end. On the other hand, it generates a history of the driver behavior that may be useful to the driver himself or to insurance, logistics or other companies in order to mitigate potential risks and reduce operational costs. The group is looking for companies from the Transport, Insurance or Apps sector to sign technical collaboration agreements, commercial agreements with technical assistance and license agreements.

UNIVERSIDAD DE ALICANTE posted this:Novel and simple procedure for dispersing graphene derivatives in chemically curable resins.The Laboratory of Adhesion and Adhesives of the University of Alicante and the company Dental Global Training, have developed a new procedure to incorporate efficiently graphene derivatives (nanofibers, nanosheets, nanoparticles) in chemically cured resins by using an in situ polymerization technique. The method is very simple and fast, it provides an excellent dispersion of the graphene derivatives in both the solid components of the resin and in the cured polymer matrix, and is entirely friendly with the environment. The novel method does not require the use of organic solvents nor water, ultrasounds, and high pressure/temperature. The resulting resin composites show excellent mechanical properties, good wear resistance, easy manipulation and increase the insolubility in oral fluids, and therefor they have special interest in applications in odontology, traumatology and non-medical applications too (automobile, construction, civil engineering, aeronautics, space engineering, electronics and optics). It is looking for companies interested in acquiring this technology for its commercial exploitation.
Fundació URV posted this:A robust breast cancer computer-aided diagnosis systemWe analyze breast cancer in mammographies, ultrasonographies, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and thermographies. Our analysis includes mass/normal breast tissue classification, benign/malignant tumor classification in mammograms and ultrasound images, tumor detection in thermograms, mammogram registration and analysis of the evolution of breast tumors. We also quantify and visualize the evolution of breast tumors in patients undergoing medical treatment. While the previous works mainly focus on analyzing one type of breast images, we implement a robust CAD system for detecting, classifying and studying the evolution of breast cancer. This CAD system analyzes breast cancer in several types of medical images. To implement our CAD system, we use computer vision, pattern recognition and machine learning methods. We also need to collect a large scale breast cancer dataset from hospitals. This dataset should include mammograms, ultrasound, thermograms and MRI images for the same patients. Our CAD gives accurate diagnosis results because it gathers information from different sources.

Daphnia sp., requires its counting and characterization to evaluate several parameters. Currently the score is performed by technicians by direct observation (“naked eye”) of exposed organisms. This process is slow, tiring and subject to human error, and it can have adverse effects on visual acuity of the technical staff involved in the count. This patent, developed in a Portuguese university, solves the problem by counting and automating this process with gains in runtime and accuracy and enabling quick and efficient recount. It follows the optimization of the process of assessing the exposure to contaminants in tests that require the use of small-sized organizations. The university is looking for companies interested in the production and commercialization of this industrial equipment.
