PhotonDelta posted this:Method and arrangement for microwave signals transmission through a multimode fiberThe invention provides a solution for the direct transportation of analog electrical signals, in particular radio signals, via a multi-mode optical fiber, so that it will be possible to transmit the transferred radio signal without any further signal processing at the base stations. Especially if a large number of base stations are used, as in the case of wireless networks as explained in the foregoing, it will be advantageous to keep the base stations as simple as possible. Not only does this provide a direct financial benefit as regards the cost of the base station itself, but it also enables a considerable saving on maintenance and repair costs of the network.
Cracow University of Technology posted this:A propulsion/drive system of aquatic vessels. Both proposed side fins drive systems have similar features which are realized by slightly different mechanisms dependant on the room inside vehicles hull. Those features are as follows: - multi-functionality, - ability to generate an extra driving force, - significant increase of swimming speed, - reduction of robot unwanted hull movements during swimming with side fins enabling proper work of onboard equipment and sensors etc. (for solutions in robots imitating fish); - increasing the dynamic of swimming depth changes; - wide range of change of direction of thrust force (also reverse thrust). - unlimited range of change of thrust around axis of rotation of side fins, - ability to dynamically stabilize heel movement of the hull - no change in the direction of rotation of the main engine transferred into oscillatory motion of lateral fins, - less energy consumption, - frequency of oscillation at a level of several Hz

Cracow University of Technology posted this:Laboratory of energy efficient buildingThe Laboratory is the first place in Poland to do such large-scale research on energy efficient technologies and the comfort of the occupants of low-energy buildings. This interesting project gives the University the leading position in the sector of energy efficient building.
Cracow University of Technology posted this:Low energy building design and thermal refurbishment of existing buildingsOUR MAIN GOALS Tools and good practice procedures for low energy building design, enabling to reduce demand on heating and prevent cooling demand while maintaining high indoor air quality. Because of the big volume of poor quality prefabricated apartment buildings, that still exist in Poland, one of our goals is also to elaborate a scenario of holistic revitalisation of those buildings in accordance with the requirements of sustainable development.

UNIVERSIDAD DE ALICANTE posted this:Low energy Wi-Fi® communications for the IoT in a wide areaThe invention consists in a communications system to send/receive small data blocks (700 bytes maximum) between a base station and a set of Wi-Fi® interfaces without any active data link (active Wi-Fi® network connection). A base station has a coverage area between 12 km2 and 27 km2 without obstacles. The system provides broadcasting and unicasting communication modes and reduces the power consumption of Wi-Fi® interfaces as it does not require an active Wi-Fi® connection. The technology can be used in applications for the Internet of Things (IoT) in order to interchange data between sensors and Internet using a single Internet connection in the base station.

University of Vigo posted this:Automated thickness measurement system for pantograph contact stripsUVIGO researchers have developed an accurate and reliable system for monitoring the durability of pantograph components preventing manual operator inspection. Based on artificial vision, this system measures the remaining thickness of the graphite layers of the collector strips. Automatic processing of collected data generates a 3D model of the strips, analyzing it to detect cracks and wear, which is crucial for pantograph maintenance.
University of Vigo posted this:Suppression of Impulsive Noise for 4G cell phonesUVIGO telecom engineers have developed a novel methodology to suppress the impulsive noise present in Long Term Evolution (LTE) cell phone systems. These systems that utilize multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) techniques are already used in fourth generation (4G) cell phones and are expected to undergo further development in a near future. The presence of impulsive noise can be detected comparing the signals received by different antennas, the subsequent application of a enhanced algorithm leads readily to the suppression of the deleterious effect of the impulsive noise on the radio signal. To date, no other methods have been specifically developed for LTE.
University of Vigo posted this:Suppression of Impulsive Noise for Power Line CommunicationsPower Line Communications (PLC) is an emerging field that enables to carry data on a conductor that is also used simultaneously for AC electric power transmission or electric power distribution to consumers. The widespread use of these technologies is however, compromised by the presence of impulsive noise that arises from interferences generated by devices connected to the power line. Therefore removal of impulsive noise is critical to get a high performance of PLC systems. UVIGO researchers have developed a novel methodology to mitigate impulsive noise by monitoring those carriers of the radiofrequency spectrum that are free of transmission in PLC systems. The identification of the noise signals allows its selective removal keeping the quality of the overall PLC signal.

Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia posted this:Method for the preparation of linear polyacenes and building blocks of organic electronic components.A new synthetic method to access precursors of linear polyacenes has been developed. The method allows for the preparation of hydrogenated polyacenes which are readily converted into the corresponding polyacene. Prepared materials are useful starting materials in the preparation of organic field effect transistors (OFETs), used in organic electronics. The method paves the way to the preparation of more efficient OFET components.
