Especially if a large number of base stations are used, as in the case of wireless networks as explained in the foregoing, it will be advantageous to keep the base stations as simple as possible. Not only does this provide a direct financial benefit as regards the cost of the base station itself, but it also enables a considerable saving on maintenance and repair costs of the network.

Based on artificial vision, this system measures the remaining thickness of the graphite layers of the collector strips. Automatic processing of collected data generates a 3D model of the strips, analyzing it to detect cracks and wear, which is crucial for pantograph maintenance.

These systems that utilize multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) techniques are already used in fourth generation (4G) cell phones and are expected to undergo further development in a near future. The presence of impulsive noise can be detected comparing the signals received by different antennas, the subsequent application of a enhanced algorithm leads readily to the suppression of the deleterious effect of the impulsive noise on the radio signal. To date, no other methods have been specifically developed for LTE.

The widespread use of these technologies is however, compromised by the presence of impulsive noise that arises from interferences generated by devices connected to the power line. Therefore removal of impulsive noise is critical to get a high performance of PLC systems. UVIGO researchers have developed a novel methodology to mitigate impulsive noise by monitoring those carriers of the radiofrequency spectrum that are free of transmission in PLC systems. The identification of the noise signals allows its selective removal keeping the quality of the overall PLC signal.

The invention is targeted to equalize the the chromatic dispersion impairments in high-speed coherent optical communication systems. This method will allow a minimization of the hardware and power consumption requirements of electronic devices in real-time implementations, due to its low complexity when compared with existent solutions. The University is seeking for optical telecommunications industries which may pretend to include this technology on their portfolio, in order to minimize the hardware and power consumption requirements of coherent transceivers.

The process uses electrospraying technique to deposit a suspension of a carbon material over a collector. This method facilitates processing superporous nanostructured carbon materials due to its high efficiency and less complexities compared to conventional techniques. The electrodes obtained can be used in energy storage or analytical sensors in commercial devices.

The proposed approach implements a Wavelet OFDM receiver, based on modulated filter banks according to the Extended Lapped Transform. This modulation technique has been proposed in data transmission for broadband power line communications (PLC), and presents the following characteristics: a) a greater spectral separation between the subcarriers; b) more noise immunity, including narrow band interference impulsive. A block channel equalization is also incorporated in the frequency domain, which includes a parallel sine-modulated filter bank. This invention can be used in all those techniques with multicarrier modulation based on Wavelet OFDM in the transmitter. The group looks for ICT companies to achieve manufacturing agreements and commercial agreements with technical assistance.

The device acts as an electrical generator and is driven by environmentally-available mechanical energy such as ambient vibrations. Due to its flexibility and small size, it is of easy integration as power generator permitting the provision of full power autonomy to any wireless sensor node during its lifecycle into a network infrastructure following the philosophy “install and forget”. Industrial partners are being sought to exploit the existing know-how through a patent license agreement.
