Current development stage
General list: TRL5 Technology validated in relevant environment
Most passion fruit cultivars grown under subtropical climates bear fruit twice a year in the summer and the winter. Peel color is either purple or yellow with the yellow fruit being larger and very sour.
We developed an exotic flavored passion fruit cultivar, which has a beautiful yellow shiny peel color, and is 1.5x larger than the leading Israeli commercial varieties. The passion fruit cultivar named ‘YUKIS’ (line ‘280-7’), has a sweet-sour taste, is very juicy and aromatic. It is also able to flower and set fruit during the warm summer, creating a bearing period which can begin in July and end in April – a total of 9 months.
- Yukis is relatively round and its appearance is appealing to the eye.
- The peel's relative thickness increases shelf-life by preventing post-harvest fruit damage.
- Yukis has a much longer season than the leading commercial varieties.
- Yukis has very vigorous growth.
Physical Attributes of the Fruit:
Yukis has a shiny yellow peel color that is very attractive to consumers. Yukis fruits are 1.5x larger than Passion Dream, the leading Israeli commercial variety.
Yuki’s taste, size, appearance and potential yield has attracted much attention from expert growers. Yukis is intended to be sold as fresh fruit but can also be used in the production of juices. Yukis is protected by PBR (Plant Breeders Rights) in Israel.
We are looking for growers and distributors in Israel as well as partners abroad for growing, marketing and selling Yukis.
Please see other specialty passion fruit cultivars such as Dena (line 428), Gilis (line 280-15) and Oris (line 280-4).
