A number of thermal detectors and visualizers for inspection systems and quality inspection have been developed in the laboratory of a University (Russia). The design of detectors allows reducing the manufacturing cost as much as possible and combining functions of spectral, polarization and spatial resolution in one device. The authors are looking for partners for commercial agreements, scientific cooperation, and technological cooperation.
Spectral-selective thermal detectors and visualizers of radiation beams are used as devices for visualization of radiation fluxes for new types of security inspection systems and inspection of the quality of materials (introscopy) in industrial production. The correct selection of detectors, as well as the absorber of the sensitive layer, causes susceptibility to the radiation flux, correct operation under different climatic conditions, transfer of key image details. The laboratory staff developed two types of detectors: 1. Based on the transformation of mm-radiation into infrared with subsequent recording of the latter by an IR camera; 2. Based on pyroelectric detection. A key feature of this type of detector is that as a photosensitive layer that absorbs mm- and sub-mm radiation, a spectrally selective absorber of ultra-thin metamaterial is used. This makes it possible to create single- and multichannel (matrix) detectors that gives an opportunity to measure both the spatial distribution of the intensity of the incident radiation flux, and its spectral composition and polarization ellipse. The image formed by the detector makes it possible to obtain substantially more information about the characteristics of the radiation beam and, accordingly, the object of the study, which is examined with the aid of this beam.
The innovativeness of the approach is that by using the metamaterial as the photosensitive layer, it is possible to register the signal and construct the image at several wavelengths simultaneously (multispectrality). The advantages are that the design of the visualization system is greatly simplified, which makes it possible to reduce its cost price.
