Summary of the technology
A Spanish research group from the Chemical Engineering Department of Alcalá University has developed a technology for an integrated treatment of vegetable wastes from agriculture exploitations, in which wastes are subjected to an integrated process producing a stable product. This product has less volume and is useful for industrial use. The group is looking for commercial agreements with technical assistance.

The oxidative processes are able to produce radical hydroxile due to the high oxidant power of this compound.
Main advantages of its use
Procedure of low environmental impact for the treatment of vegetal waste coming from vegetables and fruits crops, that provides a stable nontoxic waste, with reduced volume and useful for its incineration or industrial uses.
Process and device for an integrated treatment of vegetables wastes in which a volume of wastes is subjected to a process including the next tasks:
- Cutting with a guillotine
- Homogenizing by vibration
- Washing with surfactants in a rotary cylinder
- Drying meanwhile dry air stream
- Optional drying in a revolving tank provided with a dry air stream
Finally, a stable waste with less volume and useful for industrial application is originated. The wastewater produced is filtrated and treated in a reactor-tank meanwhile an oxidative treatment with ozone and oxygenated water, mineralizing the pollutants and allowing its reuse.
For concentrations of pollutants like pesticide and/or surfactants, in the range of mg/l, the most effective process are the oxidative ones, which are able to produce radical hydroxile due to the high oxidant power of this compound.
