  Global warming is largely associated to the presence of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This, along with the reached peak oil and the fast increasing demand in energy, places our societies in front of the urge of finding sustainable solutions for the generation of energy and chemical feedstocks. It was proposed in the 1990s that methanol could efficiently replace fossil fuels as a means to store, distribute and supply energy. Methanol can serve as a raw material for the preparation of chemical feedstocks and is also a good fuel itself; so is dimethylether. Methanol is currently being produced from synthesis gas, directly obtained from gas or biomass.
  
  A much more sustainable approach to methanol synthesis consists in capturing carbon dioxide from atmosphere or from burning plants and treat it with hydrogen to form methanol, thereby closing the carbon cycle. Such processes have been reported and they most commonly suffer from low selectivity to methanol and/or conversion of carbon dioxide to methanol, therefore requiring sofisticated process plants with high associated operating costs.
  
  The developed process allows for the preparation of methanol and DME from carbon dioxide in high yields using well-known catalysts.
  
  The Institution is searching for industrial partners to further develop these technologies from the laboratory scale to the commercial plant, jointly or independently.

With such adsorbents, oxygen product purity is limited to nominally 95% because argon is not removed and concentrates in the product gas.

  Hospital equipment infected with prions represents a constant threat since the physico-chemical characteristics of prion proteins such as resistance against high temperatures and aggressive detergents make it impossible to sterilize such equipment with standard procedures of sterilization. Moreover, there is no effective way to clean protein’s films in water pipes. Thus there is need of a new, efficient, environmentally friendly way of inactivation, elimination and/or degradation of prion protein. Currently used methods for prion degradation include application of extreme conditions.
  
  The core of the invention solves these problems by efficient protein degradation method that uses thermally stable protease pernisine for protein degradation. The degradation of protein deposites by pernisine is a very effective and simple method. The method includes degradation of soluble protein, as well as the degradation of protein deposits.
  
  The advantages of this technology is that thermally stable protease is robust, it works in the wild pH range (3-10) and in broad temperature range from 50°C up to 125°C as well as in the presence of detergents and other denaturants (urea, gvanidinium hydrochloride…).   It is well known that there are three significant parts of cell cultivation. These include strain, technology, and culture cultivation medium. We apply our methodology (Novobio):
  1) to evaluate the potential of the applied strain for the maximum level of biomass accumulation and target metabolite;
  2) to determine the optimum time of fermentation termination or duration in accordance with pre-defined quality parameters of harvested cell mass;
  3) to study changes in the age structure of cultured cells during the cultivation process;
  4) to determine the relationship between the age structure of the population and physiological needs in the components of the culture medium;
  5) to determine limiting factors of both the energy substrate and other components of the culture medium;
  6) to determine the influence of physical and rheological factors on cell culture
  7) to optimize the composition of the culture medium and the feeding method to the culture medium (type of fermentation: batch, fed-batch or continuous);
  8) to develop of manuals and instructions of inoculum preparation based on age structure and concentration.

  Biotechnology platform NovoBio consists of three major parts.
  
  1. Unstructured model energy limited the growth of microorganisms (developed in collaboration with Dr. Victor Derbyshev)
  2. Structured kinetic model.
  3. Structured kinetic model substrate utilization and valuable metabolite production.
  
  All three models provide an Integrated mathematical Model of Development (IMD), which is the basis of the biotechnology platform NovoBio.
  
  We will not bother you with mathematical derivation of all the equations that are the basis of the model, only the final equations for the calculation of the growth dynamics of biomass and valuable metabolites will be presented. Detailed description of the derivation of the equations for periodic and continuous catches of cell culture is presented in published papers.
  
  This slide shows two derived equations for periodic conditions. The first of the equations is applied in the case where the biomass is the fermentation aim in the periodic conditions, the second one is applied in the case where valuable metabolite is the cell culture aim.
  
  Most not previously used important parameters have a specific physical meaning and are used for the solution of these equations, namely: Factor A that determines the rate of inhibition of cell growth, as it determines the ratio of energy amount to maintain vital functions to energy assumption for the development, which determines the dynamics of accumulation of stable cells ceasing their growth. The most important indicator of cell culture is factor R, which determines the age structure of the population, is an indicator of cell synchronization on age and the completion of the batch process. K factor is the product of the growth rates for the total number of cells and the cells in a dormant state.
