  BACKGROUND
  
  Potable water enters our storage and supply system from a municipal water source. Once in our water system, the bacterial concentration must be decreased and maintained at bacterial concentrations of less than 50 colony-forming units (CFU) per milliliter. We're not dealing with source water from unknown or untrusted sources. However, this water may need to be stored for as long as a year and may be consumed by people at any point during that time.
  
  Simple filtration of the water at the delivery point as it is delivered is not a good option, because the water system is not guaranteed to be sterile, and the bacteria count may increase over time while the water is stored. As high bacterial counts can overwhelm filtration and treatment systems, filters at the dispense point are also not considered a good option..Instead, we are looking for technology to decrease the number of living organisms below 50 CFU per milliliter and prevent further increases in microbial growth. We do not consider water safe to drink unless it contains 50 CFU or less per milliliter.
  
  While our system is complex, the evaluation of the technology will focus on the final potable water holding tank immediately prior to consumption.
  
  CONSTRAINTS
  
  There are two major constraints:
  
  o Your proposed solution must be compatible with a variety of metals including Inconel(TM), and stainless steel, along with a variety of other materials used for seals and tubing; and
  o Your proposed solution must be reliable enough that water quality would not need monitoring more than once per month. Water may need to remain unmonitored for six months or more.
  
  Additional constraints:
  
  o Low weight
  o A residual biocide is preferred
  o No toxicological effect resulting from long-term human exposure
  o No gas production from the operation of your technology
  o Must be compatible with a specific mixture of ambient gases that include primarily oxygen and nitrogen
  o Operable at ambient pressures from sea level (14.7 psi) down to 8 psi
  
  Field Of Use and Intended Application
  Long-term human consumption.
  
  Desired Outcome
  We would like to find a substance that we can add to stored drinking water (or to the material of the storage system itself) that could substantially decrease bacterial concentrations and would prevent microbial growth and biofilm development. The output of the system would show no more than 50 CFU per milliliter.

  Comments
  The water consumed is the sole source for participants using the system. Consumption is estimated between 2 and 3 liters per day. Microorganisms previously identified in these systems primarily include Gram-negative organisms, such as pseudomonads, commonly associated with water systems.

  Hepatitis C is a disease that is rarely diagnosed before the onset of chronic complications. From the molecular characterization of the Hepatitis C virus, diagnostic tests based on specific antibodies detection have been developed. The currently used immunoassays utilize antigens from the NS3, NS4 and NS5 core regions. Our goal is to get a system that produces a HCV NS3 antigen which will be used in a new generation of assays.
  Requirements
  Our preferred proceeding is as follows: the Solver can provide just the protein to be tested and, once this stage is successfully completed, Solver can provide the system to produce it. Regardless of the agreed procedure by the Solver and the Seeker, the global requirements to meet are the following:
  1. The provided antigen should evidence excellent detection of NS3 seroconversion when tested with international commercial panels.
  2. The solver should provide a system that produces a functional antigen of the NS3 region of HCV,

  Since the last decades, a great variety of T. cruzi recombinant antigens which are immunodominant in the infection to human beings have been isolated and characterized. Among those antigens, there are 24-kDa flagellar calcium-binding proteins (FCaBP, 1F8 and Tc24). These proteins have shown to be of great utility for in vitro diagnostic assays. It is known that its employment along with other recombinant antigens within ELISA platforms allows to achieve improved levels of sensibility and specificity. Our goal is to get a system that produces T. cruzi 1F8 antigen which will be used in a new generation of assays.
  Requirements

  Clean water for drinking and washing is in short supply in most of the world. Besides hydration (a critical world-wide need), water is necessary for washing and sanitary needs.
  
  When clothes are washed in a bucket or small tub that contains a minimal amount of water, the wash and rinse water rapidly become burdened with dirt and soap. This organization would like to find a way to remove the dirt and surfactants from the used water -- cheaply -- thus effectively multiplying the clean water for use in rinsing. Ideally, your water-cleaning method could make dirty water potable.
  
  A typical first rinse laundry water contains a surfactant concentration of 0.1-0.2 g per L, a turbidity of ~300 NTU and a pH of ~9. Typical surfactants are anionic surfactants such as linear alkylbenzene sulphonates and non-ionic surfactants such as, ethoxylated alcohols.
  
  CONSTRAINTS
  
  o Your solution should present no safety or eco-toxicity issues.
  
  o The solution should not be a powered device.
  
  o Time constraints: Your solution should clean up ~10 L of water in about 2 minutes
  
  o Easy to clean and maintain. A technical solution that requires a great deal of water to clean would not be satisfactory.
