  The camera architecture is based on an ARM9, a hardware video coprocessor, and a Wi-Fi module working at 2.4 & 5 GHz (802.11 a/b/g/n). Furthermore, it contains a 5Mpixel CMOS color sensor, a SDHC card for video recording, and Bluetooth. It is a low power consumption (<3W) device and has an autonomy for 5/6 hours in a compact 40x40x20mm size.
  
  The camera is adaptable to each technology needs. Thanks to its access point capability, its size and its weight, is able to send HD live stream towards mobile phone, tablet or laptop devices where it could be visualized using an standard player such as Mplayer.

New method for producing non-toxic and biodegradable nanopigments

  A hybrid pigment is a controlled mixture between inorganic and organic material. As inorganic material it could be used in several kinds of clays for their nanoscopic properties and, as organic material, natural or synthetic colorings (thermochrome, eletrochrome, luminescence, etc.).
  
  The research group has developed a new method to produce nanostructured hybrid pigments with specific optical and colloidal properties according to the production parameters. Mainly, the customizaton of the behaviour of this materials is achieved by controlling organic/inorganic ratio in the material.

  This method has two stages:
  
  1) Dispersion of, at least, an inorganic material in water.
  2) Addition of, at least, an organic coloring solubilized by agitation.
  
  The following parameters might be changed in order to obtain different kinds of nanopigments:
  
  • Inorganic material concentration.
  • Organic coloring concentration.
  • pH.
  • Temperature.
  • Ionic strength.
  
  The optical response of nanopigments changes as a function of the particle size of the inorganic material (or materials) used by the diffusion.
  
  This method makes it possible to produce new hybrid nanopigments with optical and colloidal properties for tailored applications. Mainly, the customizaton of the behaviour of this materials is achieved by controlling organic/inorganic ratio in the material.
  
  The morphology of the material is hybrid (laminar/fibrillar). The organic coloring is selected among different types: azoic complexes, metallic, sulphurose, iminoquinone, antraquinone, ftalocianine, etc. In general words, they can be both natural or synthetic.
  
  Products can be used in printing inks, painting and dyes, paper, synthetic or natural fibers, polymer materials, cosmetics, etc.
  
  With this method the following features can be achieved:
  
  Color range control: Through the control over the different spectral species, the optical response is modified too, so the color range can be enlarged.
  
  Increase in the colouring power: The ability of the material for increasing the absorption on the surface is linked to three parameters. First, absorption coefficient of the nanopigment in relation to the coloring solution coefficient. Second, light dispersion caused by nanoparticles and addtiional coverage of the surface to fill. Third, reology and fisico-chemical properties of the material are able to obtain homogeneous dispersions.
  
  Environmental impact reduction: Some of the usual pigments contain heavy metals in its composition while inorganic solids used in this method are free of heavy metals and can even be used in cosmetics.   Majority of textile waste comes from household sources. Average lifetime of any clothing is about 3 years, after which, they are thrown away as old clothes. Sometimes even 'not so worn garments' are also discarded as they become unfashionable, or undesirable.
  
  Our partner is offering a new environmentally friendly process for recovery of acrylic polymer from colored acrylic fiber and textile wastes. The use of recovered acrylic polymer as a raw material reduces the cost of acrylic fiber in the market ensuring a strong competition with other low cost fiber such as polyester.   Scientists from University of Aveiro and a Spanish Institution have developed a luminescent molecular thermometer which is able to send information with high spatial resolution about the absolute temperature in the form of light signals that can be detected with high sensitivity and persistence. The luminescent molecular thermometer can be processed in polymeric media or integrated in a hybrid organic-inorganic matrix based on siloxane.   Mechanic wave propagation through a liquid depends on its characteristics. These can be altered by physic micro-changes caused by the presence of microorganisms. These little alterations on normal characteristics of milk cause that the ultrasonic wave takes more or less time to recover the way between the emitter and the receiver (velocity) and besides modify the absorption that “milk” environment exerts on ultrasonic waves, modifying the amplitude of wave peaks (absorption).
  
  The object of this patent is a new non-invasive method of broad spectrum microbiological detection and analysis based on the propagation of elastic waves through the milk or a dairy product derivative.
  
  The advantages of this system are:
  
  - NON- INVASIVE: intact package, without the introduction of electrodes or reagents.
  
  - REAL TIME DETECTION: both sample incubation and analysis are done at the same time, allowing the detection of microbial growth when it happens.
