  PomBioTech produces a range of labeled (13C- or deuterium) and unlabeled drug metabolite standards (e.g. Cytochrome P450 metabolites and glucuronides). These metabolites can be used as reference substrates for mass spectrometry (MS). These products are of special interest for ADME-Tox and Pharmacokinetics departments of pharmaceutical companies that are engaged in drug development processes as well as for academic institutions. PomBioTech possesses a comprehensive set of different human cytochromes P450, UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGT) and hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases (HSD) that are used for the production of cytochrom P450 reference metabolites as well as glucuronides. Metabolite production is performed in a whole cell biotransformation assays using our patented recombinant fission yeast strains. Subsequently, the metabolite of interest is purified using chromatographic methods.
  
  In contrast to chemical processes, biotechnological approaches allow the use of specialized enzymes. These display their activity only on defined positions of a target molecule, even if from a chemical point of view the same reaction would be possible on other positions as well. With intricate target molecules with many possible reaction positions (like steroid hormones) enzymatic reactions therefore lead to significantly fewer unwanted side-products than chemical reactions. Because enzymatic reactions normally take place in living cells, they do not require the extreme reaction conditions (e.g. high pressure, high temperature, toxic auxiliary substances) that are typical for chemical reactions. Due to these attributes biotechnological operations in many cases are much more efficient and cost-saving than the corresponding chemical processes.

The electronic tickets are an example, we can buy a transport ticket or a movie ticket. In this sense, the smart-phones are a key element because users can buy the e-ticket from any place and can carry tickets while they are moving, and validate them in order to get access to the service. Moreover, the e-ticketing systems must offer the same properties of the paper tickets, i.e. they must be secure, anonymous and transferable. Our system provides a secure method that is anonymous and that allows the ticket transferability between users.
  We are interested in licensing our method.

  PomBioTech offers custom made fission yeast strains that are specifically tailored to meet your need. This service is of interest for pharmaceutical and life science companies that are involved in the production of recombinant proteins or are interested in whole-cell biotransformations.
  
  When dealing with proteins that are difficult to express functionally in other microbes, fission yeast has in many instances turned out to be a suited model system in our hands. Compared to other organisms, like E. coli and the baker’s yeast, fission yeast is known to withstand harsh cultivation conditions. For example fission yeast can be cultivated in a low pH environment up to pH 3 differentiating it from other organisms. If a protein and/or reaction require such conditions fission yeast is a very well suited model organism.
  
  At comparatively low cost the PomBioTech researchers will make a proof-of-concept study to check whether your protein of interest can be functionally produced by recombinant S. pombe.   Is an interactive web application which allows consumers to have information on carbon emissions and water consumption associated to their supermarket purchases. The environmental impact of the products the consumer may buy at the supermarket is calculated based on the carbon emissions and water consumption associated to all stages of products’ life cycle, e.g. from raw materials extraction, through manufacture and use to the final recycling or management of product waste.
  
  As the costumer enters to the virtual supermarket, he/she has to declare if he recycles at home or not, because this information will be used later on for calculating the related environmental impacts and suggesting ways to make shopping more sustainable. In the next step, the costumer can enter each of the sections of the supermarket (meat, drink, fruits…etc) and choose the products as he/she would buy online. In each section of the supermarket there are typical products with different options related to size, origin and packaging (e.g. section “diaries” contains milk, yoghurt, sour cream and cheese, which can be bought fresh with minimum packing, or brought packed at the supermarket in small or bigger containers, etc.).
  
  Once finished the “shopping”, the web application calculates the “price” in terms of carbon and water footprints and also scores each product purchase decision. This information is very useful for the consumer because he/she can see in a friendly form (colours and graphs) the environmental impact of their purchase and orientate them on how to improve their shopping in terms of lower environmental impacts (in this case only carbon and water footprints).
  
  The methodology used for the calculation of carbon and water footprints is Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) which quantifies the potential environmental impact of any product, process or service, taking into account all its life cycle stages: from the extraction of raw materials and their processing, through production, logistics of distribution to retailers, use of the product and to its final disposal as a waste, considering reuse or recycling if possible. For each of these stages, it is quantified the use of materials and energy and the amount of emissions released to the air, soil or water. Based on these values, an overall score can be calculated in terms of CO2 emissions or water consumption over all the life cycle of the product. This information is what is called carbon or water footprints.
  
  The main advantages of the web application are:

Finally, the system reports on the chosen stores, the total amount, and it allows purchasing from the mobile device. So, it is noteworthy its practical use due to potential savings and improvements of customer decisions. Currently similar systems can operate from Internet, but none is known operating as an application for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

  This work is performed using DNA provided by the client. We use prokaryotic expression systems (Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis) as well of a yeast expression system (Pichia pastoris). We apply high standards in implementing quality services both technically and procedurally, that ensures high purity of the proteins we produce.
  
  In Zurko Research we perform cloning, expression and purification of proteins in bacterial or yeast systems. We develop new enzymes with interesting activities for the industry and compare them with commercial enzymes.
  
  In Zurko Research we develop pilot tests of these new enzymatic activities not yet described for its use in the industry. We also search for new enzymes with industrial interest focusing in improving bioprocesses and biotransformations. We optimize different complex proteolytic bioprocesses for better utilization of by-products following European standards in quality and in environment impact. We investigate the valorisation of by-products and residues, searching for the economic convenience of the company first. We conduct pilot tests to obtain improved formulations of active peptides and amino acids with potential applications in different industrial sectors: feed, biomedicine, plant, food, etc.
  
  APPLICATIONS IN THE DAIRY INDUSTRY
  
  1) Ripening of cheeses: Lipases are used to accelerate the ripening of blue cheeses. For the production milk rennet, renins and pepsins are used.
  
  2) The use of enzymes in pastry and bakery such as Amylases, beta-Glucanases, Hemicellulases, and Xylanases produce more sugars for the fermentation and improve the quality and taste of the bread and bakery products.
  
  3) Total Hydrolyzed Whey for functional foods. By total biohydrolysis of whey an hydrolysate is obtained with high content of essential amino acids suited for human nutrition. Exo and broad spectrum Endoproteasas are used.
  
  4) For a clarifying effect of fruit juices and vegetables using various enzymes: Hemicellulases, Pentosanases, Cellulases, Xylanases and Pectinases. To remove the bitter taste of grapefruit juice because of the citrus peel alpha-L-Rahmanosidase and beta-Glucosidase are used.
  
  APPLICATIONS IN THE PRODUCTION OF FEED
  
  Production of feed products highly digestible. This can be achieved with the addition of certain enzymes in the animal feed, such as Glucanases, Xylanases, Amylases and Phytases (better absorption of phosphate)
  
  1 .- Use of enzymes for the degradation/treatment of cererals. Among these enzymes are: Amylases, Xylanases, Gluconases and Cellulases, mainly from microbial source.

  New procedure for sewage sludge composting. Our partner has several years experience in composting technology and it has more useful and environmentally friendly composting technology.
  
  The offered composting technology is suitable for composting sewage sludge. It is based on the application of controlled composting for rapid degradation of organic pollutants and immobilization of inorganic micro-pollutants for safe land disposal by using industrial slurry-phase by-products (e.g. by-products from sunflower seed oil processing industry). The process of controlled composting contributes to preserve the fertilizer value.
  
  Before the composting the untreated sewage sludge is mixed with waste sludge (e.g. sludge produced by sunflower seed oil processing industry) and other specific additives to accelerate mineralization and to moderate ammonia and GHG (greenhouse Gas) emission.
  In some cases composting simulation is used for optimalization of raw material composition and gas emission controlling within 3 weeks in an adiabatic drum system.
  Composting occurs under controlled condition means that additives, digesters and labile carbon sources are added continuously to the compost pile. Specific additives are responsible for the suitable and rapid mineralization and thermophilic stage to preserve fertilizer value.
  
  Depending on the properties of raw materials encapsulated windrow composting is applied for controlled composting which means a covering of compost pile by using specific polymers.
  The end-product is a potential source for soil improvement and conditioning after 4-pre- and 6-week-term post maturation stages.
  
  The whole composting process is not longer than 70-90 days.

The degree of vision loss can vary from mild to complete blindness. This visual impairment not only creates a great hardship for the child, it can certainly limit future endeavors.   The wastewater treating equipment removes and eliminates the contaminants from various types of wastewater produced in the surface-treating workshop, in order to keep their concentration under the limits.
  
  The wastewater treating equipment is designed according to the quantity and the type of wastewater (e.g. acidic, alkaline etc.) and with the concentration of contaminant (thin solution or concentrated solution).
  
  Type of wastewater treating equipments:
  
  1. Working periodically:
  
  Wastewater coming from surface-treating workshop is collected in receiving vessels and led into the reactor, where reagents are dosed in accordance with the type of wastewater and the concentration contaminants. Then the treated wastewater arrives into the settling pan or equipment (e.g.: of tilted plates) where solid phase is separated from the liquid one. After a pH control the solid-free wastewater is emitted from wastewater treatment plant through an rubble filter, an active carbon filter and a final cation exchanger. The solid phase arrives in the sludge press where approximately 20-30 % solid matter content can be achieved. During further dewatering in a sludge drying equipment the solid matter content can reach approximately 90 %, which has a significant economic benefit since the deposition or elimination costs decrease radically.
  
  2. Working continuously:
  
  In the case of continuously working equipments the wastewater from the surface-treating workshop arrives also in the receiving vessels to assure uniform wastewater treatment. From here the wastewater flows into the reactor, where sensors measure the concentration of the contaminants, then automatic dosing pumps add the suitable reagents to the wastewater. This water continuously flows across the reactor where the completeness of the treatment is assured by effective mixing and a control system. The wastewater flowing out of the reactor arrives into the settling equipment where the solid phase is separated. The next step is the pH-control; eventually an active carbon treatment, followed by the final cation exchange and rubble filtering (similarly to the periodically working equipment). The solid phase is led into sludge press and finally the sludge can be enriched further in a sludge-drying machine (if requested).
  
  3. Wastewater treatment with recirculation
  In order to decrease the rinsing water demand in the surface-treating workshop, after further treatment the cleaned water can be recirculated to the surface treating containers. In this case the wastewater treatment can be more effective with application of further cation and anion exchangers and active carbon cleaner because in this way totally removes organic compounds i.e. all the contaminants. The treated water can be reused in almost every bath in the surface-finishing workshop.
  
  4. Automatic wastewater treating equipment
  Both the periodically and the continuously working wastewater treatment equipments can be produced in automatic versions, too. In this case a computer controls the wastewater treating equipment. Measuring units determine the parameters of incoming wastewater and the computer chooses the relevant reagents, which are added by dosing pumps, and controls the characteristics of outgoing wastewater. Personal intervention is needed only to fill up the containers with treating reagents. If an error occurs the computer gives error signals, even as SMS upon request.

  Tons of olive pulp are extracted annually in Spain, of which a large amount is thrown away creating an environmental problem. So, researchers have discovered and patented a process for preparing synthetic derivatives from a highly antioxidative natural product (hydroxytyrosol) which is extracted directly from the olive pulp. These derivatives have been tested ex vivo with rat liver microsomes treated with a diet void of vitamin E, and it has been shown that upon applying the substances developed by the researchers, the substance worked as a cellular tissue protector at a much higher level than when tested with other antioxidants used in the study.   MOVEO is a light-weight foldable electric scooter, produced on the basis of a brand new concept. The monocoque body is made of a high-tech composite material, i.e. no traditional frame is required. This is an advantage in terms of reaching a very low weight and foldability. The max. speed the scooter is capable to operate with is 45 km/h, and its range with a single charge is approximately 35 km (with double battery pack 70 km). It has in-wheel-motors in both wheels (two-wheel drive). Its folding can easily be mastered. In its folded state the scooter is the size of a large suitcase and it can be pulled similarly. Its weight is less than 25 kg, without the saddlebag that can be used as a back-pack. It requires no parking space; in a folded state it can be stored anywhere and no dirt will be released from the tyres or the drum. It is unique, no such compact solution scooter is available on the market today.
  
  All similar vehicles contain only some of the main features of MOVEO. In addition to the uniqueness, so far unseen innovative solutions -such as the monocoque body, the compact and dirt-free folding -, the product offers a wide range of positive features at the same time (light weight, comfortable sitting position, two-wheel drive, etc.). Its consumption is much lower than the recent state-of-the-art electric scooters: 2-2.5 kWh/100 km. The batteries can be charged from standard electric network as in the case of any household appliance. As such, it will be feasible in the near future, with a small investment, to ensure the operation of the scooter from renewable energy sources (solar, heat, wind energy) only: The MOVEO would therefore be autonomous, independent from the electricity network.
  
  The design of MOVEO must be highlighted, in which functionality and the organic approach resulted in a unique and clean shape. We consider the unique appearance of the scooter essential to attract the buyers of such price category and meet the sophisticated expectations attached. Read more
