  We hope to find a food or ingredient that acts as an aid to sleep, or that enhances the effectiveness of another sleep aid already on the market (such as sleep aid devices), in order to improve sleep duration and quality.

  Details of the Tech Request :
  
  Good, restful, refreshing sleep often eludes us. There are many aspects to this: sleep that is long in coming, waking during the night, and sleep of short duration that leads to morning sleepiness and lack of alertness during the day. We are looking for foods, ingredients, or other ways to enhance natural sleep and perhaps work in conjunction with other sleep-producing methods such as light, sound, touch, temperature, or other OTC products.
  
  Science suggests that hormones and neurotransmitters are involved in effecting sleep. For example Serotonin levels rise at night and Melatonin is produced to regulate sleep, furthermore it is seen that high levels of GABA are required to reduce adrenalin at night.
  
  Therefore the potential solutions could thus include:
  
  o Agonists for melatonin, GABA, adenosine, 5-HT2A or galanin
  
  o Actives or products that increase potency or effectiveness of existing sleep enhancing ingredients, actives or behavioral programs eg solutions that provide a feeling of relaxation, sedation or calming.
  
  o Herbs from traditional medicine, enzymes, ingredients, additives, component, blend, extract or device. (It would be preferable for you to have synergistic data with another sleep aid).
  
  o Ingredients for buccal membrane or gum application.
  
  Our focus is general -- not on sleep apnea or any specific medical condition.
  
  Currently, we are NOT looking for:
  
  o Herbs without a sustainable supply chain
  
  o Teas
  
  o Topical products (unless your active can also be used in food or in combination with food )
  
  o Aroma/fragrance products
  
  o Devices for monitoring sleep
  
  o Anything synthetic and not viewed as a food (i.e. can only be produced via chemical reactions etc)
  
  o Old or discarded pharmaceutical technology or product
  
  o Prescription medicine (e.g. sleeping tablets)
  
  CONSTRAINTS
  
  You will need to have a good explanation for the mechanism of action.
  
  You will need to present potency data and toxicity data; but because your solution is probably novel, we understand that you may not yet have clinical data.
